The paper offers a reappraisal of the empirical study by Mather and Peasnell (1991) of 13 UK brand-capitalizing companies. It argues that the findings of this study can be questioned on a variety of grounds including: method appropriateness, indirectness, timing and data issues. Specifically, it is suggested that their use of market reaction testing on this topic fails to capture the wide variety of economic consequences that may flow from brand capitalization.  相似文献

An examination of the development of computer usage in financial institutions reveals two reasons for this use. First, the pressure of growth e.g. cheque clearing, where irrespective of cost justification, business volumes were growing at such a rate that it would have been impossible to exist without automation. Secondly, those uses which were cost justified, usually in saving labour but which were constrained in their implementation by the answers to the justification equation e.g. centralized accounting systems in banks and building societies. Only so much was implemented because the technology was relatively expensive. More recently, however, technology has advanced in power, complexity and price-performance terms to the point where the user is no longer constrained either by the capability of the system to carry out the task, or by the expense of the system in relation to the cost of the job as currently performed.  相似文献

Subjective age–as distinct from chronologicalAge–is a relatively recent area of scientificinquiry within quality-of-life studies. Thepurpose of this empirical study was to seewhether the size of the gap between actual andself-perceived age could be predicted from aknowledge of a senior's reasons for wanting totravel on vacation, and his or her valuepriorities and sense of physical well-being. Asurvey of 356 Australian seniors ranging in agebetween 56 and 93 yielded data on theirsubjective age, measured in terms of (a) howold they felt; (b) the activities they wouldchoose to experience or enjoy while on avacation; and (c) the age they wished to betreated and recognized as–as well as theirpsychological motives for vacation travel, personal values, and self-rated health. Theresults of multivariate analyses indicate thatthe gap between actual age and subjective ageis a function of seniors' particular motivesfor travel and what they value in life, and,for certain aspects of subjective age, howhealthy they feel and their gender.  相似文献

This paper describes a two‐year study conducted in 24 English councils to evaluate the implementation of the Framework for the Assessment of Children in Need and their Families. The Framework promotes a holistic, multi‐agency approach towards the assessment of children in need. The study was carried out in two phases. Phase one explored how councils implemented the Framework and accompanying assessment records. Phase two used a variety of methods to assess the impact of the Framework on practice, including an audit of completed assessment records, postal questionnaires to practitioners and managers in social services and partner agencies, and a qualitative study of 52 cases which included interviews with parents, children over 10 and social workers. A time record was used to gather information on the time social workers spent on the various elements of the core assessment process. The study suggests that councils had to overcome a number of organizational and other barriers in order to implement the Framework. However, the Framework and supporting materials appear to have provided the foundations to improve the quality of social work recording and promote interagency working, and have strengthened the involvement of children and families in the assessment process.  相似文献
