Ordinarily, the process of decision making by a committee through voting is modeled by a monotonic game the range of whose characteristic function is restricted to {0, 1}. The decision rule that governs the collective action of a voting body induces a hierarchy in the set of players in terms of the a-priori influence that the players have over the decision making process. In order to determine this hierarchy in a swap robust game, one has to either evaluate a power index (e.g., the Shapley–Shubik index, the Banzhaf–Coleman index) for each player or conduct a pairwise comparison between players, whereby a player i is ranked higher than another player j if there exists a coalition in which i is more desirable as a coalition partner than j. In this paper, we outline an alternative mechanism to determine the ranking of players in terms of their a-priori power. This simple and elegant method uses only minimal winning coalitions, rather than the entire set of winning coalitions.

This paper examines the agrarian social relationships between peasant farmers and local feudal landlords. Using land conflict as a basis of analysis this paper explores the basic characteristics of a Nepalese power skewed rural society and its relation with land. A case study was conducted using key informants and semi-structured interviews, focus group discussion, questionnaire survey, and observation to examine the agrarian social relations. The paper highlights that reformative rules and regulations alone do not always govern the behaviour of powerful people in rural communities. Rather, context and time-specific, persistent local resistance movements force changes to their behaviour and associated power relations. The paper concludes that organized peasant movements could non-coercively change existing patron-client relations in agrarian society. Rural families and tenant farmers are able to establish their identity when they realize their strengths.

The lives of disabled women in Nepal: vulnerability without support
The study examines a broad range of problems faced by physically disabled women. Qualitative interviews with 30 women with physical disabilities (congenital and acquired) were administered to understand various aspects of their lives. The research explores the causes of disability, which include gender discrimination, poverty, an inactive state security system, inadequate family support, negative attitudes and a lack of commitment on the part of government. The available services from non-governmental organizations have been proved to be unsatisfactory and gender biased in terms of training and employment. The importance of disability and its relation to gender has not been recognized by the state.

Social work education commenced in India in 1936 with the establishment of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. This paper examines the historical evolution of professional social work education in India. It also critically examines the growth of social work education, fieldwork practice, and social work as a profession in India to discern its limitations. Various alarming situations have hampered the growth of social work in India and as such the profession suffers a credibility problem. We offer recommendations for the growth and success of social work education in India.
