The two dominant labor market turnover hypotheses, the firm-specific human capital model (FSHCM) and the job-matching model, suggest different patterns of player mobility in major league baseball. The matching hypothesis predicts greater mobility of players in positions that require substantial team production. A better match may offer large productivity gains. Alternately, the FSHCM predicts players in positions requiring the greatest amount of teamwork will benefit from specific knowledge, making them less likely to change teams. We examine the frequency distribution of trades by player position from 1900–1992 and find the FSHCM provides the best explanation for turnover in this industry. 相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine first year outcomes of an alcohol preventive intervention within inner-city middle schools. Subjects consisted of 650 sixth grade students from one neighborhood inner-city school (n = 262) and one bused school (n = 388). At posttest, chi-square analyses showed that significantly fewer neighborhood intervention students initiated alcohol use, used alcohol during the past seven-day and thirty-day periods, drank heavily during the past thirty days, and drank over any period of time, compared to control students (p's < .05). Significant group x prior alcohol consequences interaction effects were found for bused students, showing those with past alcohol consequences who received the intervention had less intentions to use alcohol and less frequent use of alcohol (p's < .05). These results suggest that a brief, stage-based preventive intervention may result in significant reductions in alcohol initiation and consumption among some inner-city youth. 相似文献

The situation in Afghanistan today is not what the international community was planning it to be, 7 years ago when the Bonn
Agreement was signed. Deterioration of security, weak governance, corruption, high narcotic production and trade, slow reconstruction
process and consequent people’s disappointment are some of the features of that situation. Kabul and its international partners
had a very little success in restoring peace and security, and a new phase of strategic re-thinking is in process. This article
analyzes the different aspects of Afghan reconstruction and military intervention, their strengths and weaknesses, and outlines
some urgent actions to be taken by all concerned actors.
