This article reports findings from a phenomenographic investigation into career practitioners’ ways of experiencing social media in career services. Focus‐group interviews were conducted with 16 Danish and Finnish career practitioners with experience using social media in career services. Four qualitatively different ways of experiencing social media in career services were identified. Social media in career services was experienced as (a) a means for delivering information, (b) a medium for 1‐to‐1 communication, (c) an interactive working space, and (d) an impetus for paradigm change and reform. The results suggest that models of career intervention and ways of experiencing social media appear to be intertwined. The hierarchical structure of the findings may serve as a tool that enables career practitioners to deepen their ways of experiencing and understanding social media in career services by using the critical aspects that were identified. 相似文献

The use of social media expands the availability and sources of career information. However, the authorship of this information has changed from traditional print media and multimedia sources created by experts to social media–based career information created by the users themselves. Although variability in career information validity has been an issue for some time, rapid growth in the use of social media creates some unique challenges. The ease with which social media–based career information can spread creates the potential for rapid widespread dissemination of disinformation and biased perceptions. Potential sources of invalidity include intentional bias (with or without profit motive), unintentional bias, restricted range of experience, out‐of‐date information, popularity bias, similarity bias, and context deficiency. The authors examine potential sources of social media–based career information invalidity and suggest implications for practice to help individuals make the best use of such information. 相似文献

In project portfolio selection, the aim is to choose projects which are expected to offer most value and satisfy relevant risk and other constraints. In this study, we show that uncertainties about how much value the projects will offer, combined with the fact that only a subset of the proposed projects will be selected, lead to inaccurate risk estimates about the aggregate value provided by the selected project portfolio. In particular, when downside risks are measured in terms of lower percentiles of the distribution of portfolio value, these risk estimates will exhibit a systematic bias. For deriving unbiased risk estimates, we present a calibration framework in which the required calibration can be presented in closed‐form in some cases or, more generally, derived by using Monte Carlo simulation to study a large number of project selection decisions. We also show that when the decision must comply with risk constraints, the introduction of tighter (more demanding) risk constraints can counterintuitively aggravate the underestimation of risks. Finally, we present how the calibrated risk estimates can be employed to align the portfolio with the decision maker's risk preferences while eliminating systematic biases in risk estimates. 相似文献

ABSTRACT This paper studies the relationship between the level of education and the probability of re-employment. Using a search theoretical model, it is shown that on the lowest levels additional education increases the probability of re-employment, but on the highest levels the relationship turns negative. Finnish microeconomic data on unemployed workers show that unemployed people who have 13–14 years of education have the highest re-employment probability. 相似文献

Although the production of the built environment is increasingly globalized, and architecture and urban planning (AUP) professionals are known to be the key carriers of mobile ideas, the internationalization of small owner-centred architectural offices has gained little academic attention, compared to the large consultancies that dominate the global market. We bring together the literature on the circuits of urban planning ideas, the international movement of AUP firms and professional ethoses to explore the internationalization of small AUP offices. Using interview data from Finnish offices, we investigate the ‘what, where, why and how’ and find that they have entered specific geographically delimited AUP circuits demarcated by type of project. We contribute to the literature by identifying motives characteristic of small offices guided by professional ethoses suited to the circuits where they internationalize. Their ethoses may evolve in time and space, as they operate in new circuits. We propose that ethos–circuit coherence may contribute to the successful internationalization of small architectural offices. The findings open avenues for further research on professional ethos not only of architects but also other internationally operating professionals, as it may guide their decisions by other than a narrowly conceived profit motive. 相似文献
