In this paper we study the distribution of the number of customers served in a busy period in the framework of modified power series distribution introduced by Gupta (197U) and obtain the moments and probability generating function of this distribution. We also study the maximum likelihood estimation of the parameter θand the variance and the asymptotic bias of the MLE are also obtained. The minimum variance unbiased estimate of θris investigated and an estimate of the probabilities is given.  相似文献

Abstract

Based on interviews with South Indian Hindu immigrant widows and the daughters and daughters-in-law they live with in Southern California, this article makes visible the care-giving and care-receiving roles of such widows, especially in relation to the household roles of these widows' daughters and daughters-in-law. The article explains the variability of the widows' care roles by focusing on three specific phenomena distinguishing their First World experience from that of paid, immigrant care workers: 1) a greater need for non-monetary resources than for monetary payment; 2) a ‘care shift’ from giving to receiving care as they age; and 3) an ability to move from one adopted/adoptive household to another. These phenomena suggest that the same forces of modernization, (post)industrialization, and globalization that have circumscribed many Third World women's status in First World households have simultaneously diversified the status and role of middle-class, South Indian Hindu widows living in their children's First World households.  相似文献

In this paper we extend GUPTA'S (1975) resLilt and show that the constant value of a truncated moment characterizes the exponential distribution. Similar results are prov¬ed in the discrete case and it is shown that two consecutive factorial moments are enough to determine the distribution. However, under mild conditions, the constancy of one fac¬torial moment is enough to guarantee that the distribution is geometric. Considering the truncation on the right, a general method of obtaining the distribution, whenever £(h(X) | Xj) is known, is fxmbitud in tnr continuous and in the discrete case. The link between childhood abuse, adult depression, and anxiety has been well studied, but few studies have empirically explored the mechanism of that link. Using a clinical sample of women, this study examined the relationship between retrospectively measured childhood abuse and neglect and current adult symptoms of anxiety and depression, via the mediating effects of cognitive style. This study found that women who reported a positive abuse history were significantly more depressed and exhibited more maladaptive schemas than women who did not report a history of abuse. Specifically, it would appear that cognitive styles marked by interpersonal disconnection and rejection are particularly pathogenic. These findings contribute to the growing literature by providing support for the role of cognitions in mediating the link between childhood abuse and psychopathology.  相似文献

In statistical data analysis, the choice of an appropriate model is a very important factor. An inappropriate model leads to a different kind of error in the analysis. This error has been called by C. R. Rao as type III error or modeling error as opposed to type I and type II errors in statistical inference.In This paper we Study the relative errors in Incurred by Erroneously Assuming the Distribution of the Family Size N as P(n) While in fact it is the Length-biased (Weighted) Version of P(n).An Analytical Expression for the Relative Error,When the Distribution of N Belongs to the Class of Modified Power Series Distributions, is Derived. More Specifically, the Effect of length-biasing on the Relative Error is Investigated, When N Follows a Generalized Poisson Distribution. It is well known that, in the continuous case, the probability that two consecutive order statistics are equal to zero, whereas it is not true when the distribution is discrete. It is, perhaps, for this reason that order statistics from discrete distributions has not been investigated in the literature as much as from a continuous distribution. The main purpose of this paper, therefore, is to obtain the probability of ties when the distribution is discrete. Also it is shown that, in the discrete case, the Markov property does not hold good. However, the order statistics from a geometric distribution forms a Markov chain.  相似文献
