The productivity of (human) information processing as an economic activity is a question that is raising some interest. Using
Marschak's evaluation framework, Radner and Stiglitz have shown that, under certain conditions, the production function of
this activity has increasing marginal returns in its initial stage. This paper shows that, under slightly different conditions,
this information processing function has repeated convexities with ongoing processing activity. Even for smooth changes in
the signals' likelihoods, the function is only piecewise smooth with non-differentiable convexities at points of conditional
changes of action. For linear likelihood functions the processing value proves to be piecewise linear with convexities at
these levels.

An exploratory study of thirteen Japanese-American gay men residing in the Los Angeles area found that those men who had disclosed their sexual orientation to family members were more likely to express more positive attitudes concerning a variety of issues. Detailed personal accounts of these patterns are presented along with discussions of how Asian homosexuals maintain their “double-minority” identities as both Japanese and gay. 相似文献

We examine the financial linkage between the London and Amsterdam financial markets using stock prices recorded in each market over the period 1723-94 in conjunction with tests for common trends, cycles, and regime shifts. These tests reveal a surprising degree of integration between the markets as their prices move together in both the short and long run. Moreover, shocks to the assets translate quickly and accurately between markets. It also appears that Dutch investment did not destabilize London markets and stock prices in London were the primary determinant of prices in Amsterdam. 相似文献

Honor‐based violence (HBV) is a serious concern for women and girls from particular ethnic backgrounds. Unfortunately, while the sociology discipline pays significant attention to gender‐based violence in western contexts, HBV is a topic under‐studied in the field. This article reviews the literature on HBV, typically coming from social work, cultural studies, and feminist studies, and focuses on the phenomena's link to notions of masculinity and femininity, its collective nature, and the ways an Orientalist discourse has developed in western regions that address HBV. The article closes by identifying gaps in the existing literature, and offers suggestions for future directions. 相似文献

The present research project is the first large-scale study (N = 5,051) that investigated the prevalence of victims of violence for an ethnically diverse Asian/Pacific Islander sample. The rate for the adolescent respondents of "was a victim of violence (was physically harmed by someone)" within the past 6 months was 3.33%. Over twice that rate was found for family members (6.97%) and over three times the adolescent-respondent rate was obtained for close friends (10.75%). Only partial support was found for the hypothesis that Asian groups would have the lowest rates, and Polynesian, African American, Hispanic, and Native American Indian/Alaska Native groups would have the highest rates. Higher rates were found for Whites (adolescent respondents, close friends) and the Portuguese (family members, close friends), suggesting a "minority" effect. There is a need to disaggregate ethnicity, engage in further research that considers risk and protective factors, and investigate culturally appropriate interventions. 相似文献
