This study explores the levels of beliefs about practice and practice behaviors with lesbian and gay clients among social work practitioners in a medical setting. The Gay Affirmative Practice scale was utilized to measure the levels of gay affirmative practice beliefs and practice behaviors among the sample surveyed. The relationship of practice beliefs and practice behaviors is explored and reveals that practice beliefs are significant to practice behaviors with lesbian and gay individuals. The results identify variables that contribute to practice beliefs and practice behaviors. 相似文献

Following the suggestion of Ragin (1998, Voluntas, 9(3), 261–270), this article uses social origins theory (Salamon and Anheier, 1998, Voluntas, 9(3), 213–248) as an heuristic device to explore change in a specific field of nonprofit activity; the English housing association sector. Conventional histories of the sector in the twentieth century suggest a succession of eras with different policy drivers. These eras can be seen as consistent with shifts in welfare regime from liberal to social democratic (after 1919) and to neo-liberal/neo-corporatist (after 1980). Examples drawn from a panel study support the analysis of Esping-Anderson (1990, The Three Worlds of Welfare Capitalism, Princeton University Press, Princeton) that underlying the apparent stability of welfare regimes there are constant processes of negotiation and conflict which may lead to transformations at organization, sector, or regime level. Rather than simply responding to policy drivers, some housing associations have been able to influence the environment in which policy is made and thereby to shape their own and the sector's transformations. 相似文献

This article reports on the “social empathy attitudes” results that were part of a larger study on empathy in college students at a large research university in the Southwest. Two hundred ninety-four students completed the Social Empathy Assessment Index (SEAI). The research hypothesis was that students of color would have higher levels of social empathy attitudes than Caucasian students. The statistically significant SEAI items suggested that Latino students identify as more collectivist and more optimistic and have higher levels of social empathy attitudes. Latinos may be more willing to help a stranger than either Caucasians or members of other racial groups. 相似文献

traditionally nonunion, low-wage industries of the South. This paper assesses the importance of the Stevens/ACTWU settlement
for Stevens, the textile industry, and the changing Southern economy. When the ACTWU victory is examined in this light, it

Abstract The effects of measures of perceived parental role satisfaction on daughter's personal aspirations and sex role orientation, controlling for parents' status characteristics, are examined using data from a random sample of college women. Perceived parental role reactions are found to have a moderate independent effect on daughter's educational, occupational, marital and parenting plans, and sex role orientation. Perceived dissatisfaction by the mother with the roles of mother and housewife and by the father with his job contribute to the development of feminist sex role attitudes. Perceived dissatisfaction with role of mother and father's job contribute to aspiring to a lifestyle that includes advanced education, an atypical professional occupation, uncertainty about marriage and few or no children. Perceived responses to the housewife role and mother's job are related to occupational and marital aspirations, mother's working to marriage, and parenting plans. Mother's employment affects the impact of perception variables on personal aspirations. 相似文献

A pilot study of six couples, in which both partners had jobs outside the home, was carried out to examine the impact of 'dual task-dual role' status on the female relative to the male partner. Psychological well-being and adrenomedullary functioning were monitored in 'at home' and 'outside the home' work situations. Results showed that females' adrenomedullary activity remained high across both situations, while males' 'at home' levels for the 'Late' Saturday and 'Early' and 'Late' Sunday periods were significantly lower than their 'outside the home' midweek levels. Males' and females' 'outside the home' levels and 'Late' Sunday 'at home' levels did not differ significantly, but females had significantly higher levels of adrenomedullary activity than males on the 'Late' Saturday and 'Early' Sunday periods. Differences in self-rated positive and negative mood were not significant either within or between groups. The implication of these trends for research on sex differences in stress is discussed. 相似文献

Previous studies have a demonstrated a linkage between terrorist attacks and the operation of financial markets. This article focuses on terrorist events carried out over the last five years and examines how they have been perceived among participants on the London financial market. Data from the London options market suggest a high degree of sensitivity to these events. We argue that this sensitivity reveals a vulnerability in the financial markets should the recent trends in terrorist activity continue. 相似文献

This paper explores the complex process of hybridisation of third-sector housing and support organisations (TSOs) in Northern Ireland. The focus of the study is the policy field of housing-related support services, known in the UK as ‘Supporting People’. This is a hybrid policy field involving several government departments, a number of market mechanisms and two types of third-sector actors. The exercise of organisational agency to adapt to competing drivers is illuminated through mental health and homelessness case studies. The paper explores how competing external influences from the Northern Ireland Assembly, horizontal policies for the third-sector and vertical service commissioning policies interact with TSOs’ own adaptation strategies involving the deployment of robust third-sector identities. Hybridisation is found to involve not only the dominance of state drivers and the promotion of market mechanisms in both fields, but also enactment of third-sector identities. Our analysis of hybridization in this case counters Billis’ (2010) representation of third-sector identity as weak, in flux, and subject to erosion by focusing on the agency of TSOs to strategically adapt to and negotiate external drivers and thereby achieve competitive advantage. Through the enactment of identity in this adaptation process, resources such as legitimacy, charitable income and volunteers are secured. This provides opportunities for policy makers to add value if they are prepared to emphasise horizontal over vertical policy goals. 相似文献

This paper compares the differing perceptions of racism reported by White (n = 222), Black (n = 99), and White–Black multiracial (n = 45) students at an urban campus of a Southern university. Using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), we examine the differences between the racial groups in three campus contexts—campus in general, with instructors, and with other students. Items chosen for analysis included behaviors or actions experienced by at least 4% of the respondents. In nearly all areas, the multiracial student group reported the most experience with prejudice. We employ standpoint theory to discuss these findings. 相似文献
