Externality arises when the private economy lacks incentives to set up a potential market in some commodity and when the nonexistence of this market results in a Pareto-suboptimal allocation. How can this idea be modified in the setting of the public benefits model of health care? This article argues that the equilibrium level of expenditure on health care is likely to vary markedly, depending on the institutional arrangements for its provision—public, mixed private-public, or purely private—but in none of these is the level of expenditure necessarily Pareto-optimal. 相似文献

During the eighteenth century, the number of child slaves leaving the ‘Nigerian’ region for the Americas increased and almost doubled after 1820. While the increase reflected shifts in the operations of the Atlantic trade, it also revealed the significance of slavery in pre-colonial Nigerian societies, which historically retained more child slaves than were sold abroad, even when the productivity of some children was uncertain. With a focus on the internal (intra-Nigeria) slave trade, this article examines the attraction of child slaves, their modes of enslavement, treatment and status, and the impact of slavery on children. 相似文献

In this paper, the logistic regression model is applied to analyse some prison data. Precisely the model is used to predict the future conduct of a discharged prisoner. The consequence of this is that on the basis of the predicted probability of ‘success' one can say whether or not it is beneficial to retain a convict in prison for a long period of time. 相似文献

A new approximation to the incomplete beta function is proposed. This approximation compares favourably well with the Mudholkar-Chaubey (1976) approximation and it is infact superior for equal degrees of freedom. Moreover’ it is simpler to evaluate. 相似文献

This study investigates the extent to which there exists a relationship between the perception of professionals and members of the general public regarding image of public relations (PR) profession in Nigeria. Four operational hypotheses were tested using Chi-square cross tabulation. The result shows that members of the general public and professionals perceived PR messages as credible. However, members of the general public, unlike professionals, perceived the loyalty of PR professionals to be more on the side of employers and clients; the role of PR was perceived as basically oriented towards media relations; and PR profession was perceived more as a tool for repairing damaged organisational image. Appropriate recommendations are offered. 相似文献
