The crux of the European dilemma in international corporate planning lies in the frequent European fate as a way-station for manufacturers that begin their commercial lives in North America and end them in the Less Developed Countries. Thus, it is the companies in middle income countries like Europe (and Japan) that are going to have to be fastest on their feet. By and large, they have neither the first markets nor the last production sites. If they wish to survive, they will have to plan to take up and cast off products. Unless, of course, we wish to go back to the negotiated interwar, no or low growth environment. Fortunately, however, there probably is no going back. The cost to consumers of protected markets would be far too high to be acceptable.  相似文献

A system can be classified with respect to the physical arrangement of its components and the functioning principle. A circular consecutive k-within-m-out-of-n:F system consists of n circularly ordered components and fails if and only if there are m consecutive components that include among them at least k failed components. A circular consecutive k-within-m-out-of-n:F system turns into circular consecutive k-out-of-n:F for m = k and k-out-of-n:F system for m = n. In this study, signature-based analysis of circular consecutive k-within-m-out-of-n:F system is performed. A new approximation to this system is provided based on maximum number of failed components and an illustrative example is given for different values of n, m, k to compare the approximate results with simulated and exact results.  相似文献

System signature is a useful tool to analyze coherent systems. In reliability theory, a large number of systems is actually the composition of disjoint subsystems (modules). However, in real life, there are situations in which the subsystems have common components. In this article, we consider the problem of obtaining signatures as well as minimal signatures of series and parallel systems that are composed of subsystems sharing a component. That is, these subsystems are no longer disjoint. Computational results are also presented to illustrate our findings.  相似文献

In this article, the influence of a cold standby component to the reliability of weighted k-out-of-n: G systems consisting of two different types of components is studied. Weighted k-out-of-n: G systems are generalization of k-out-of-n systems that has attracted substantial interest in reliability theory because of their various applications in engineering. A method based on residual lifetimes of mixed components is presented for computing reliability of weighted k-out-of-n: G systems with two types of components and a cold standby component. Reliability and mean time to failure of different structured systems have been computed. Moreover, obtained results are used for defining optimal system configurations that can minimize the overall system costs.  相似文献

College students have poor nutrition habits and often exhibit at-risk weight control behaviors; yet, health promotion efforts on campuses often target other risk behaviors such as alcohol and tobacco use. The goal of this study was to determine program content and examine the feasibility of a web-based nutrition education program for college students using innovative applications of tailoring, targeting and personalization of information. Comprehensive program planning entailed three phases: focus groups and use of concept mapping methodology, prototype web program development, and feasibility testing of the prototype. Results of concept mapping suggested that students and experts agreed on the relative importance of the major content areas unique to the college audience. A prototype web program, informed by health promotion theories, was developed and evaluated. Students and college health professionals participated in the feasibility evaluation, which included acceptance and usability testing of the prototype. Mean scores were computed for the acceptance ratings that indicated that the prototype web program was not only feasible, but also compelling and relevant for the college audience. In conclusion, a tailored, web-based interactive nutrition program could potentially be used to provide individualized nutrition information to encourage college students to adopt healthy eating behaviors.  相似文献

It is well established in the literature that college students have poor eating habits and that many barriers exist to achieving optimal nutrition for this busy population. Little is known about students' perceptions of this problem or suggestions for improving their dietary habits. Similarly, college health professionals need innovative approaches to nutritional education. In an effort to develop an online nutrition resource specifically geared to college students, the authors assessed the availability of Internet-based nutritional information for this population and conducted focus groups with students and health professionals to identify relevant nutrition concerns. They used concept-mapping techniques to conduct a systematic analysis of the qualitative information generated from their focus group participants. Their findings emphasize the need for targeted resources for college students and the importance of using students' suggestions in developing nutrition programs.  相似文献
