Through the investigation of kolberi (cross-border labor), this paper sheds light on the state’s policy of de-development (or internal colonialization) of the Kurdish region (known as Rojhelat) in Iran. While the most dangerous form of labor, kolberi has become a dominant employment opportunity for Rojhelat Kurds in the last decade. There are no Iranian state laws criminalizing kolberi, and yet those laborers die on a regular basis—being shot or thrown off mountain cliffs by the state forces, stepping into minefields, and so forth. Nevertheless, there is not a single scholarly paper on this subject. Using the mixed methods research approach, our study analyzes the existing data along with in-depth interviews with 20 people who are currently engaged in kolberi to contextualize this understudied phenomenon. Our finding demonstrates that kolberi is a direct outcome of a uni-ethno-religious policies of development and part and parcel of the state's Perso-Shi‘ification strategy in Kurdistan. Therefore, kolberi is more of a political phenomenon than an economic one. 相似文献

The family of skew distributions introduced by Azzalini and extended by others has received widespread attention. However, it suffers from complicated inference procedures. In this paper, a new family of skew distributions that overcomes the difficulties is introduced. This new family belongs to the exponential family. Many properties of this family are studied, inference procedures developed and simulation studies performed to assess the procedures. Some particular cases of this family, evidence of its flexibility and a real data application are presented. At least 10 advantages of the new family over Azzalini's distributions are established. 相似文献

In this paper, we intend to deconstruct the term ‘tribalism’ as a colonial category, which figures as a prominent concept in social studies on Kurds as well as the Middle East at large. Blithely used, tribalism has occupied a central place, especially in the existing scholarship on Kurdistan. Some earlier anthropological works have gone so far as to regard tribalism as the ‘DNA’ of Middle Eastern people. Drawing on recent studies on Latin America, Africa and Central Asia, we argue that the use of tribalism as if it is the natural constitution of Kurdish society has caused a significant misrepresentation and oversimplification of socio‐political life in Kurdistan as well as the broader Middle East. In a way, the existing body of scholarship on this region has reproduced statist‐nationalist discourses at the expense of dominated communities (e.g., Kurds). The historical context of both colonial powers and nation‐states ‘combating tribes and tribalism’ coincided with the emergence of the discourse of racial biopolitics. Thus, the use of the term tribalism to define certain nations or ethnic groups should not be viewed as merely an application of socio‐anthropological categories. Hence, we argue that the ethical aspects and implications of the use of tribalism by both colonial powers and later by nation‐states to define certain ethnic groups must not be overlooked. 相似文献

Forward-moving average coefficients are in general different from their corresponding backward-moving average coefficients in multivariate stationary time series. There is lack of practical methods to derive forward-moving average coefficients from the backward ones. In this article, we establish a new practical approach for obtaining the forward-moving average coefficients for multivariate moving average processes of order one. 相似文献

One of the most popular methods and algorithms to partition data to k clusters is k-means clustering algorithm. Since this method relies on some basic conditions such as, the existence of mean and finite variance, it is unsuitable for data that their variances are infinite such as data with heavy tailed distribution. Pitman Measure of Closeness (PMC) is a criterion to show how much an estimator is close to its parameter with respect to another estimator. In this article using PMC, based on k-means clustering, a new distance and clustering algorithm is developed for heavy tailed data. 相似文献

Background
Identifying the optimal type and amount of activity for the maintenance of function in older adults has proved challenging. On the one hand, Masters Athletes have been proposed as the ideal model of successful aging but most of this research has focused on physical functioning. On the other hand, the importance of cognitive engagement has been emphasized, which may be more strongly related to activities such as playing chess. The current study aimed to compare physical health outcomes (i.e., prevalence of physical injury and chronic disease) among older athletes and chess players. Masters Athletes and chess players were recruited from track and field and chess competitions within the province of Ontario. In addition to these primary groups, moderately active and inactive older adults from Canadian Community Health Survey were also included for comparison. Results
Masters Athletes had significantly higher rates of injury with the lowest rates of chronic disease, compared to all other activity groups. In contrast, chess players reported lower rates of injury compared to Masters Athletes as well as lower prevalence of chronic diseases compared to the moderately active and inactive groups. The normative groups reported the lowest rate of injury, but increased prevalence of chronic diseases compared to Masters Athletes and chess players. Conclusions
Findings from this study indicate that both athletic and cognitive engagement may be positively related to the physical health of older adults, since Masters Athletes and chess players reported a lower prevalence of chronic disease. Importantly, the results expand our current understanding of health by providing evidence for physical health outcomes associated with an activity that is primarily associated with cognitive health.8.
We derive the best linear unbiased interpolation for the missing order statistics of a random sample using the well-known projection theorem. The proposed interpolation method only needs the first two moments on both sides of a missing order statistic. A simulation study is performed to compare the proposed method with a few interpolation methods for exponential and Lévy distributions. 相似文献

Soltani and Mohammadpour (2006) observed that in general the backward and forward moving average coefficients, correspondingly, for the multivariate stationary processes, unlike the univariate processes, are different. This has stimulated researches concerning derivations of forward moving average coefficients in terms of the backward moving average coefficients. In this article we develop a practical procedure whenever the underlying process is a multivariate moving average (or univariate periodically correlated) process of finite order. Our procedure is based on two key observations: order reduction (Li, 2005) and first-order analysis (Mohammadpour and Soltani, 2010). 相似文献
