A Model of Quality of College Life (QCL) of Students in Korea 总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
This study develops and tests a model of quality of college life (QCL) of students in Korea. In this study, QCL of students
is conceptualized in terms of needs satisfaction and affect balance. It has been hypothesized that satisfaction with education
services, administrative services, and facilities have a significant impact on QCL, which in turn positively influences identification,
positive word of mouth, and overall quality of life. The results of a survey on 228 Korean college students largely support
the model. Managerial and policy implications are discussed. 相似文献

This paper reports the results of three studies designed to test the nomological validity of a consumer well-being (CWB) measure
in relation to personal transportation. The CWB measure was developed guided by the theoretical notion that the CWB in relation
to personal transportation vehicles is significantly enhanced when the consumption of the vehicle meets the full spectrum
of human developmental needs (i.e., safety, economic, family, social, esteem, actualization, knowledge, and aesthetics needs).
The nomological validity of the CWB measure was tested by exploring the various antecedents and consequences of the construct.
This was done in three separate studies in which the results of one study prompted further conceptual development and additional
testing. The overall findings of the three studies provided support for the nomological validity of the CWB measure. 相似文献

Further Validation and Extension of the Quality-of-Life/Community-Healthcare Model and Measures 总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
This paper extends and further validates thequality-of-life/community-healthcare model andmeasures developed by Rahtz and
Sirgy (2000).The quality of life (QOL) model is based on thetheoretical notion that community residents'satisfaction with
healthcare services available withintheir community affects community quality oflife and life satisfaction. This study extends
themodel and, in keeping with past research, posits that the bottom-up spillover from communityQOL to life satisfaction is
greater for thoseindividuals with low personal health satisfaction, lower income, and old age. Data were collectedfrom 1094
community residents in the East-Coast area of the United States. The resultsprovide good support of the new model.Managerial
implications and applications forthe new model are discussed. 相似文献

This paper reports a study designed to further validate a measure of quality of college life (QCL) of university students (Sirgy, Grzeskowiak, Rahtz, Soc Indic Res 80(2), 343–360, 2007). Two studies were conducted: a replication study and an extension study. The replication study involved surveys of 10 different college campuses in different countries. The results of the replication study provided additional nomological (predictive) validation support of the measure based on a theoretical model mapping out the antecedents and consequences of satisfaction with college life. With respect to the extension study, the focus was to further test the nomological validity of the QCL measure by arguing and empirically demonstrating that the consequence of QCL is life satisfaction. The extension study involved a survey of three college campuses in different countries. The results were also supportive of the nomological validity of the QCL measure. 相似文献

The literature in economic psychology and quality-of-life studies alludes to a negative relationship between materialism and life satisfaction. In contrast, the macroeconomic literature implies a positive relationship between material consumption and economic growth. That is, materialism may be both good and bad. We develop a model that reconciles these two contrasting viewpoints by asserting that materialism may lead to life dissatisfaction when materialistic people evaluate their standard of living using fantasy-based expectations (e.g., ideal expectations), which increases the likelihood that they would evaluate their standard of living negatively. In turn, dissatisfaction with standard of living increases the likelihood that they would evaluate their life negatively. However, materialistic people who evaluate their standard of living using reality-based expectations (e.g., ability expectations) are likely to feel more economically motivated than their non-materialistic counterparts, and this economic motivation is likely to contribute significantly and positively to life satisfaction. Survey data were collected from seven major cities each in a different country (Australia, Bosnia/Herzegovina, Germany, Egypt, Korea, Turkey, and the USA) using a probability sample (cluster sampling method involving income stratification). The results provide support for the model. The economic public policy implications concerning how people evaluate their standard of living using ability-based expectations are discussed in the context of the ideals of meritocracy. 相似文献

This paper develops theory related to advertising, materialism, and life satisfaction by formally testing explanations related
to the antecedents and consequences of materialism. Survey data were collected from seven major cities each in a different
country (Australia, Bosnia/Herzegovina, Germany, Egypt, Korea, Turkey, and the USA) using a probability sample (cluster sampling
method involving income stratification). The results showed that the extent to which advertising is perceived to be materialistic
contributes to materialism. Materialism, in turn, leads to the frequent use of various standards of comparison in making judgments
about standard of living. As judgments about standard of living increase, standard of living is evaluated more negatively.
In turn, negative self-evaluations contribute significantly to dissatisfaction with life. 相似文献

This paper is a sequel to Sirgy et al. (Social Ind. Res. 68(3) (2004) 251), “The Impact of Globalization on a Country’s Quality of Life: Toward an Integrated Model” published in
Social Indicators Research. That paper conceptualized globalization in terms of the free flow of four major components: (1) goods and services, (2) people,
(3) capital, and (4) information. The current paper focuses on the free flow of goods and services, one of the four major
components of globalization. Specifically, we (1) articulate the trade globalization construct, (2) show the complex mediating
effects between trade globalization and QOL, and (3) describe under what conditions these positive vs. negative QOL effects are likely to occur. We develop a set of theoretical propositions to capture these
mediating and moderating effects. Based on the theoretical model, we suggest the following public policy recommendations:
(1) Encourage exporting firms not to outsource jobs. (2) Encourage firms to export more products in ways that can enhance
their production efficiency. (3) Discourage firms from exporting culturally sensitive (and possibly offensive) products to
culturally distant countries. (4) Encourage firms to export more products with potential for technology transfer. (5) Encourage
firms in industries with a significant comparative advantage to increase exports. (6) Encourage imports of products that do
not compete with high employment domestic industries where workers cannot easily transition to more productive employment.
(7) Impose trade barriers as short-term solution to help␣threatened industries while helping those industries retool to become
more competitive. (8)␣Assist displaced workers by re-training them to shift to industries with comparative advantage. 相似文献

A new measure of community well-being is developed based on the notion that community residents perceive the quality-of-life
(QOL) impact of community services and conditions in various life domains (e.g., family, social, leisure, health, financial,
cultural, consumer, work, spiritual, and environmental domains). These perceptions influence residents’ overall perception
of community well-being, their commitment to the community, and their overall life satisfaction. Survey data were collected
in the Flint area (Michigan, USA) in four waves (1978, 1990, 2001, and 2006). The data supported the nomological validity
of the measure. 相似文献

This paper reports on an effort to develop an Internet well-being measure for possible use by government agencies and industry
associations that are directly involved with the promulgation of the Internet. Such measures can help officials gauge the
social health of those Internet-related industries and institutional sectors, which in turn can guide the development of policies
to enhance the quality-of-life impact of the Internet. The Internet well-being measure is based on the theoretical notion
that the perception of the overall impact of the Internet on users of the Internet is determined by their perceptions of the
impact of the Internet in their life domains such as consumer life, work life, leisure life, social life, community life,
sensual life, among others. In turn, the perception of impact of the Internet in a given life domain (e.g., consumer life,
work life) is determined by perceptions of benefits and costs of the Internet within that domain. We conducted a focus group
to identify all the perceived benefits and costs within salient life domains of college students. We also conducted a thorough
literature search to identify studies that examined the quality-of-life impact of the Internet in a variety of life domains.
We then tested the nomological validity of the measure through two surveys at two major universities (one in the USA and the
other in Korea). The statistical analysis allowed us to identify those measurement items that are most predictive, and therefore
considered as nomologically valid. Policy implications of the study are discussed along with future research avenues. 相似文献
