Notes on Interval Estimation of Odds Ratio in Matched Pairs under Stratified Sampling

We develop four asymptotic interval estimators and one exact interval estimator for the odds ratio (OR) under stratified random sampling with matched pairs. We apply Monte Carlo simulation to evaluate the performance of these five interval estimators. We note that the conditional score test-based interval estimator with a monotonic transformation and the interval estimator based on the Mantel–Haenszel (MH) type point estimator with the logarithmic transformation are generally preferable to the others considered here. We also note that the conditional exact confidence interval can be of use when the total number of matched pairs with discordant responses is small.     

金平傣族多重信仰文化探析

金平傣族是一个跨中越边境而居的特殊族群,可细分为白傣、黑傣、普洱傣以及曼仗傣等四个亚族群。由于历史渊源、分布地域的不同以及社会文化的差异等原因,其信仰文化具有与其他地区的傣族不尽相同的特征。本文在长期深入细致的田野调查的基础上,对金平傣族的多重信仰文化进行初步探析,认为金平傣族的信仰文化呈现出以民间信仰和南传佛教信仰为主、兼有道教文化以及儒家文化信仰的多重信仰文化的特色,这实际上是多种信仰文化长期交融与变迁的结果。这一结论有助于改变以往学界对傣族似为“全民信教”（信仰佛教）或“双重信仰”（民间信仰与佛教信仰）的简单化认识。     

Notes on testing carry-over effects in continuous data under an incomplete block crossover design

We consider hypothesis testing and estimation of carry-over effects in continuous data under an incomplete block crossover design when comparing two experimental treatments with a placebo. We develop procedures for testing differential carry-over effects based on the weighted-least-squares (WLS) method. We apply Monte Carlo simulations to evaluate the performance of these test procedures in a variety of situations. We use the data regarding the forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV₁) readings taken from a double-blind crossover trial comparing two different doses of formoterol with a placebo to illustrate the use of test procedures proposed here.

A DIRECT TEST OF THE EFFICIENT MARRIAGE MARKET HYPOTHESIS

This paper takes Becker's efficient marriage market hypothesis at face value, and directly confronts it with data from Hong Kong. The theory of optimal assignment is used to develop an empirical model of spouse selection, which resembles a Tobit model. This model can address positive or negative assortative matching as well as marginal product pricing in marriage markets. We also use a computer algorithm to solve the assignment problem for imputed marital output. The degree to which the actual pairing of husbands and wives corresponds to the optimal pairing provides a goodness-of-fit test of the efficient marriage market hypothesis. Notes on estimation of the intraclass correlation under the AB/BA crossover trial

Under the AB/BA crossover trial, we focus our attention on estimation of the intraclass correlation in normal data. We develop both point and interval estimators in closed form for the intraclass correlation. We employ Monte Carlo simulation to study the performance of these estimators in a variety of situations. We note that the estimators developed here for the intraclass correlation remain valid even when there are possibly unexpected carry-over effects.
