Abstract. In regression experiments, to learn about the strength of the relationship between a covariate vector and a dependent variable, we propose a ‘coefficient of determination’ based on the quantiles. Such a coefficient is a ‘local’ measure in the sense that the strength is measured at a prespecified quantile level. Once estimated, it can be used, for example, to measure the relative importance of a subset of covariates in the quantile regression context. Related to this coefficient, we also propose a new ‘local’ lack‐of‐fit measure of a given parametric model. We provide some asymptotic results of the proposed measures and carry out a Monte Carlo simulation study to illustrate their use and performance in practice.  相似文献

Abstract. In this article, we study the quantile regression estimator for GARCH models. We formulate the quantile regression problem by a reparametrization method and verify that the obtained quantile regression estimator is strongly consistent and asymptotically normal under certain regularity conditions. We also present our simulation results and a real data analysis for illustration.  相似文献

Abstract. Frailty models with a non‐parametric baseline hazard are widely used for the analysis of survival data. However, their maximum likelihood estimators can be substantially biased in finite samples, because the number of nuisance parameters associated with the baseline hazard increases with the sample size. The penalized partial likelihood based on a first‐order Laplace approximation still has non‐negligible bias. However, the second‐order Laplace approximation to a modified marginal likelihood for a bias reduction is infeasible because of the presence of too many complicated terms. In this article, we find adequate modifications of these likelihood‐based methods by using the hierarchical likelihood.  相似文献
