Several estimators for estimating the mean of a principal variable are proposed based on double sampling for stratification (DSS) and multivariate auxiliary information. The general properties of the proposed estimators are studied, search for optimum estimators is made and the proposed estimators are compared with the corresponding estimators based on unstratified double sampling (USDS).  相似文献

Abstract

This article is an effort to analyze the influence of education and occupation as critical determinants of smokeless tobacco use among adult males in India and its selected states. Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) India 2009–10 data are used to analyze the prevalence of smokeless tobacco use among adult males aged 15 years and above (N = 33,767) by their different education and occupational status. Bivariate and multivariate (Cox proportional survival model) analyses are carried out to assess the linkages of education and occupation with use of smokeless tobacco among adult males. The study suggests that the majority of Indian men are using khaini (18%) and gutkha (13%) (the local terms used for smokeless tobacco). Further, it is observed that education and occupation remain the two important critical predictors of smokeless tobacco use among men. A greater percentage of young men with no education from rural areas use smokeless tobacco (44.3%) than their counterpart group from urban areas. The socioeconomically disadvantaged states, noticeably the east and central (4.992 and 3.218; p < .001) states, record higher prevalence of smokeless tobacco use than other states. Considering the high prevalence of smokeless tobacco use among illiterate and socioeconomically deprived youths, there is an urgent need to sensitize the issue. More concrete efforts to generate awareness on the ill effects of tobacco use among the illiterate and those who are employed in low-profile occupations are needed.  相似文献

This article examines demand, manufacturing, and supply factors proposed to inhibit manufacturer delivery execution. Extant research proposes many factors expected to harm delivery performance. Prior cross‐sectional empirical research examines such factors at the plant level, generally finding factors arising from dynamic complexity to be significant, but factors arising from detail complexity to be insignificant. Little empirical research examines the factors using product‐level operating data, which arguably makes more sense for analyzing how supply chain complexity factors inhibit delivery. For purposes of research triangulation, we use longitudinal product‐level data from MRP systems to examine whether the factors inhibit internal manufacturing on time job rates and three customer‐oriented measures of delivery performance: product line item fill rates, average delivery lead times, and average tardiness. Our econometric models pool product line item data across division plants and within distinct product families, using a proprietary monthly dataset on over 100 product line items from the environmental controls manufacturing division of a Fortune 100 conglomerate. The data summarize customer ordering events of over 900 customers and supply chain activities of over 80 suppliers. The study contributes academically by finding significant detail complexity inhibitors of delivery that prior studies found insignificant. The findings demonstrate the need for empirical research using data disaggregated below the plant‐level unit of analysis, as they illustrate how some factors previously found insignificant indeed are significant when considered at the product‐level unit of analysis. Managers can use the findings to understand better which drivers and inhibitors of delivery performance are important.  相似文献

Abstract

In this article, we have considered three different shared frailty models under the assumption of generalized Pareto Distribution as baseline distribution. Frailty models have been used in the survival analysis to account for the unobserved heterogeneity in an individual risks to disease and death. These three frailty models are with gamma frailty, inverse Gaussian frailty and positive stable frailty. Then we introduce the Bayesian estimation procedure using Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) technique to estimate the parameters. We applied these three models to a kidney infection data and find the best fitted model for kidney infection data. We present a simulation study to compare true value of the parameters with the estimated values. Model comparison is made using Bayesian model selection criterion and a well-fitted model is suggested for the kidney infection data.  相似文献

Abstract

A method of construction of A-optimal binary block designs for asymmetrical parallel line assays, i.e., the assays in which the number doses for standard and test preparation are unequal has been considered. The method is illustrated with examples. Two cases of this method have been considered. In the first case, designs obtained are of equal replications of the doses. (2006 Ahmed, M. S., O. Al-Titi, Z. Al-Rawi, and W. Abu-Dayyeh. 2006. Estimation of a population mean using different imputation methods. Stat. Trans. 7 (6):12471264. [Google Scholar]). The STRIM may even outperform the Searls type difference imputation methods (STDIM) proposed by us in our earlier work, Bhushan and Pandey (2016 Bhushan, S., and A. P. Pandey. 2016. Rotatable designs that are available for process/ product optimization trials are mostly symmetric in nature. In many practical situations, response surface designs (RSDs) with mixed factor (unequal) levels are more suitable as these designs explore more regions in the design space but it is hard to get rotatable designs with a given level of asymmetry. When experimenting with unequal factor levels via asymmetric second order rotatable design (ASORDs), the lack of fit of the model may become significant which ultimately leads to the estimation of parameters based on a higher (or third) order model. Experimenting with a new third order rotatable design (TORD) in such a situation would be expensive as the responses observed from the first stage runs would be kept underutilized. In this paper, we propose a method of constructing asymmetric TORD by sequentially augmenting some additional points to the ASORDs without discarding the runs in the first stage. The proposed designs will be more economical to obtain the optimum response as the design in the first stage can be used to fit the second order model and with some additional runs, third order model can be fitted without discarding the initial design.KEYWORDS: Response surface methodology, rotatability, orthogonal transformation, asymmetric, sequential experimentation, third order designs  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The role of data within international development is rapidly expanding. However, the recency of this phenomenon means analysis has been lagging; particularly, analysis of broader impacts of real-world initiatives. Addressing this gap through a focus on data’s increasing presence in urban development, this paper makes two contributions. First – drawing from the emerging literature on ‘data justice’ – it presents an explicit, systematic and comprehensive new framework that can be used for analysis of datafication. Second, it applies the framework to four mapping initiatives in cities of the global South. These initiatives capture and visualise new data about marginalised communities: residents living in slums and other informal settlements about whom data has traditionally been lacking. Analysing across procedural, rights, instrumental and structural dimensions, it finds these initiatives deliver real incremental gains for their target communities. But it is external actors and wealthier communities that gain more; thus, increasing relative inequality.  相似文献

The present study is an attempt to equip a strategy with a cost-effective computational approach when non response is present under two occasion sampling. In addition, we have also computed variance for some fixed cost. We have discussed the aforementioned procedure for three cases as when there is non response present on both occasions, first occasion and second occasion. A numerical illustration is demonstrated for validation of improved cost methodology where we also work out with optimum unmatched or matched fraction while Choudhary et al. (2004 Choudhary, R. K., H. V. L. Bathla, and U. C. Sud. 2004. On non-response in sampling on two occasions.
