Linear Increments with Non‐monotone Missing Data and Measurement Error

Linear increments (LI) are used to analyse repeated outcome data with missing values. Previously, two LI methods have been proposed, one allowing non‐monotone missingness but not independent measurement error and one allowing independent measurement error but only monotone missingness. In both, it was suggested that the expected increment could depend on current outcome. We show that LI can allow non‐monotone missingness and either independent measurement error of unknown variance or dependence of expected increment on current outcome but not both. A popular alternative to LI is a multivariate normal model ignoring the missingness pattern. This gives consistent estimation when data are normally distributed and missing at random (MAR). We clarify the relation between MAR and the assumptions of LI and show that for continuous outcomes multivariate normal estimators are also consistent under (non‐MAR and non‐normal) assumptions not much stronger than those of LI. Moreover, when missingness is non‐monotone, they are typically more efficient.

Semiparametric Regression Smoothing of Non-linear Time Series

In this paper, we consider using a semiparametric regression approach to modelling non-linear autoregressive time series. Based on a finite series approximation to non-parametric components, an adaptive selection procedure for the number of summands in the series approximation is proposed. Meanwhile, a large sample study is detailed and a small sample simulation for the Mackey–Glass system is presented to support the large sample study.

Robust Tests in Semiparametric Partly Linear Models

Abstract.  This paper focuses on the problem of testing the null hypothesis that the regression parameter equals a fixed value under a semiparametric partly linear regression model by using a three-step robust estimate for the regression parameter and the regression function. Two families of tests statistics are considered and their asymptotic distributions are studied under the null hypothesis and under contiguous alternatives. A Monte Carlo study is performed to compare the finite sample behaviour of the proposed tests with the classical one.

Partly linear models on Riemannian manifolds

In partly linear models, the dependence of the response y on (x ^T, t) is modeled through the relationship y=x ^T β+g(t)+?, where ? is independent of (x ^T, t). We are interested in developing an estimation procedure that allows us to combine the flexibility of the partly linear models, studied by several authors, but including some variables that belong to a non-Euclidean space. The motivating application of this paper deals with the explanation of the atmospheric SO₂ pollution incidents using these models when some of the predictive variables belong in a cylinder. In this paper, the estimators of β and g are constructed when the explanatory variables t take values on a Riemannian manifold and the asymptotic properties of the proposed estimators are obtained under suitable conditions. We illustrate the use of this estimation approach using an environmental data set and we explore the performance of the estimators through a simulation study.
