When Working Hard Is Not Enough for Female and Racial/Ethnic Minority Apprentices in the Highway Trades

Drawing on employment records, qualitative interviews, and a survey, we explore the experiences of apprentices in the highway trades in Oregon. We demonstrate that female and racial/ethnic minority apprentices have lower rates of recruitment and retention and disproportionately face challenges with interpersonal interactions, hiring practices, and supervisory practices. Yet, we find a pervasive narrative that attributes apprentices' success to “hard work,” which contributes to the legitimacy of these inequalities. Consistent with the conceptualization of work organizations as inequality regimes, we argue that the apprenticeship system has policies, practices, and ideologies that are on the surface gender and race/ethnicity neutral, yet lead to the perpetuation of inequalities.

论军校思想政治教育中的“法制权威教育”

分析了加强法制教育、进一步培养生长干部学员法制权威意识的必要性,指出了目前军队院校"法制权威教育"中存在重视程度不够、教育模式较落后、缺少专业军事法律人才培养等问题,提出了加强军队院校"法制权威教育"应从统一思想认识、普及法律意识和规范教育体系等三个层面做好工作等具体措施。     

Doing Gender unto the Other: Fiction as a Mode of Studying Gender Discrimination in Organizations

Although ‘doing gender’ has been recently defined as an accomplishment, an element of social practice, this understanding of the concept needs to be extended to coercive action such as subtle workplace discrimination. Even though great effort has been invested in revealing the dynamic of such social practices, the researcher's task is not easy for a variety of reasons. This type of study is difficult to conduct by following traditional research design and many alternative approaches have been tried. This article presents the possibility of using fiction as one possible and relatively unexploited venue of research.

在推进市场经济发展过程中,处理好政府之间的财政关系十分重要。改善政府间财政关系,必然涉及到政府间财政权限的集中与分散的处理问题。在实行市场经济体制和分级财政体制的西方国家里,财政分权理论受到广泛重视,这些理论为建立分级财政体制和强调地方政府的职能作用提供了充分的根据和充足的理由,也为我们处理好政府间的财政关系提供了有益的启迪。     

唐代后期宦官与皇位继承权之争

唐代后期宦官对皇位继承权的争夺非常激烈。考察玄宗到唐末哀帝的皇位继承形式 ,可以总结出唐末皇位继承之争的特点 :垄断性 ,分阶段性 ,斗争的复杂性。垄断性是由于宦官任枢密、典禁军、掌监军所致 ;分阶段性是由于宦官典掌禁军、出任监军、养子制度在德宗时的制度化使得宦官对唐末皇位继承权的控制在德宗前后有所不同 ;斗争的复杂性是由于宦官在宫中的特殊地位所致
