The effects of psychiatric symptoms on quality of life assessments among the chronic mentally ill

This study of chronically mentally disabled persons in community residences examined the discriminant validity of subjective quality of life indicators and self-report mental health indices to determine the potential confounding effects of psychopathology on the assessment of quality of life (QOL). Factor analyses and difference-score reliabilities identified a general QOL construct and a general mental health construct with 27% common variance. However, psychiatric symptoms did not significantly (p less than .05) alter the bivariate and multivariate relationships among the QOL ratings, except in the health domain in which the correlations of health-related QOL indicators with global QOL were significantly (p less than .05) attenuated after removing the effects of psychopathology. The results suggest that psychopathology does not introduce bias into the overall structure of QOL data, but they also indicate the importance of controlling for mental health effects in the assessment of patients' self-rated health and satisfaction with health care.

吉登斯结构化理论不仅是一种社会学理论,而且是一种历史观。吉登斯从人类实践活动的理论向度出发,对于社会的构成、社会的类型和社会的变迁做出了新的分析和说明,从而实现了当代西方社会历史观的重建。虽然吉登斯历史观受马克思唯物史观的巨大影响,批判吸取了当代社会科学发展的诸多理论成果,并且做出了许多富于启发性和独创性的见解,但是,吉登斯误解了马克思唯物史观的理论体系,否认了人类社会发展的必然性和规律性,其历史观本质上是一种唯心史观。     

吉登斯的现代性思想"群像"

吉登斯建构了一个完整的现代性思想体系。在吉登斯那里,断裂性是现代性的首要特征。资本主义、工业主义、监督机器与军事力量是现代性的制度性维度。而时空分离、脱域机制和反思性监控是现代性的动力。现代性的高度全球化衍生出了世界资本主义经济体系、民族国家体系、世界军事秩序和国际劳动分工体系。现代性扩张的后果是把人类带入了一个风险社会,而走出风险社会的乌托邦现实主义导向性策略是消除贫困、恢复环境、反对专权以及减少社会生活中的武力与暴力。

安东尼.沃克(Anthony R.Walker)的<积德与太平盛世:拉祜人礼仪生活中常规和危机活动>是他从事拉枯族研究长达40余年的总结.他所采用的跨时间和地域的比较法、长期细致的田野调查与广泛的文献资料收集相结合的方法、多学科的资料收集和分析方法、小社区与大环境相联系的理论与方法、研究主题与社会经济文化历史背景密切联系的方法,都值得中国人类学/民族学研究借鉴.     

Anthony Giddens and public relations: A third way perspective

In the article, the main theories of Anthony Giddens (structuration and late modernity theory) are presented and applied upon public relations. A review shows that there have been few attempts to use these theories in public relations. The analysis states that using Giddens leads to a questioning of the dichotomy between instrumental agency-oriented theories that neglects power structures as well as critical theories that only views public relations as hidden strategic action used by elites to dominate the public sphere. The conclusion is that there are two major arguments for applying Giddens to public relations: (1) the theory of late modernity may enhance our understanding of public relations as an evolving practice in socio-historical and spatial terms; (2) the structuration theory enhances the holistic understanding of how public relations communication, interpreted as a process, may be used both as a reproductive and a transforming social instrument. Giddens theory may in other words be used as a “third way public relations theory”.

从20世纪社会工作发展轨迹来看，专业社会工作的发展曾先后受到社会民主主义和新自由主义两种价值体系的影响。随着第三条道路福利思想的提出及其在西方国家的政策实践，专业社会工作开始受到了第三条道路福利思想的启发，在社会工作价值基础、受助者与工作者关系、社会工作功能和过程模式上都出现了新的反思和发展。     

嵌入社会框架的社会福利模式：理论与政策反思*

20世纪90年代，在福利国家危机重重的背景下，吉登斯的第三条道路的超越构想理论应运而生。该理论首先解构了后传统社会，由此而提出了六个面向社会框架的超越构想；其次，吉登斯将社会福利模式的超越构想嵌入到社会框架中，界定了外部风险和人为风险，由此而提出了消极福利转化到积极福利的超越构想。借鉴嵌入社会框架的社会福利模式的超越构想，本文反思中国社会政策，提出了中国社会政策的新社会框架，即责任提倡、多元部门发展、社会政策议题对话等，提出了中国社会福利模式转化与社会政策改革的原则。
