Problems with Maximum Likelihood Estimation and the 3 Parameter Gamma Distribution

The three parameters involved are scale a , shape 𝜌 , and location s . Maximum likelihood estimators are (\hata, \hat\rho, \hats) . Using recent work on the second order variances, skewness, and kurtosis we establish the facts, that if the location parameter s is to be estimated, then the asymptotic variances only exist if 𝜌 >2, asymptotic skewness only exists if 𝜌 >3, and 2nd order variances and third order fourth central moments only exist if 𝜌 >4. The result of these limitations is that in general very large sample sizes may be needed to avoid inference problems. We also include new continued fractions for the asymptotic covariances of the maximum likelihood estimators considered.     

Level of choice in older women’s decisions to retire or continue working and associated well-being

Retirement is a complex life transition. Women’s retirement, like their work lives, may be further complicated, for example, by family or financial obligations; they may feel forced to retire or to continue working or feel they have the choice to do so. This study examines the role of voluntary versus involuntary retirement or continued work participation among retirement-age women; specifically, the relationships between choice, work status, and well-being. Compared to women forced to retire, women who chose retirement or continuing to work had higher levels of life satisfaction. Findings highlight the importance of examining retirement within the life course context.

《新唐书·宗室世系表》是查阅唐代皇室家族传承关系的一个便利的工具,但由于编撰和传承等诸多原因,我们现在所见到的《新唐书·宗室世系表》存在着许多缺漏和讹误之处。为了使《新唐书·宗室世系表》更完善,从而使其在唐代文史研究中发挥更好的作用,笔者利用近年所出土的唐代墓志和其它相关材料,对其进行了一次粗略的匡补工作。

《续修四库全书总目提要》是继《四库全书总目》之后又一部重要的大型古籍提要目录,为治相关学问者不可或缺的重要工具书。但该书于兵乱之时成于众手,难免出现疏漏之处。

《续金瓶梅》在人物命名、人物命运等多方面受到《玉娇李》的影响,这就明确了前者在创作时确实参考了后者。当下《玉娇李》研究几乎全是研究《金瓶梅》的副产品,而对《玉娇李》本身及其对《续金瓶梅》的影响研究不够。丁耀亢当是通过诸城丘家见到或听到过《玉娇李》。崇祯本《金瓶梅》的评改者似乎看过《玉娇李》。《玉娇李》与《续金瓶梅》之间关系的发现对《金瓶梅》研究有一定的价值。

后续走私犯罪因其日趋严重而倍受关注，准确把握法律方能对此类犯罪进行有力打击。故在适用《刑法》有关规定时应综合法理、立法背景、立法意图作宽泛理解，以“偷逃应缴税额是否已达法定数量”作为定罪和量刑的标准，从而避免实现中的放纵犯罪。     

A Bayesian nonparametric model for Taguchi's on-line quality monitoring procedure for attributes

A Bayesian nonparametric model for Taguchi's on-line quality monitoring procedure for attributes is introduced. The proposed model may accommodate the original single shift setting to the more realistic situation of gradual quality deterioration and allows the incorporation of an expert's opinion on the production process. Based on the number of inspections to be carried out until a defective item is found, the Bayesian operation for the distribution function that represents the increasing sequence of defective fractions during a cycle considering a mixture of Dirichlet processes as prior distribution is performed. Bayes estimates for relevant quantities are also obtained.     

论美国《2000年持续倾销和补贴抵消法》

通过制定《2000年持续反倾销和补贴抵消法》,美国国会对反倾销法做了具有突破性意义的修改———将反倾销税由向美国财政部交纳,变为直接交付给那些提起反倾销诉讼的美国企业。文章从WTO体制下的反倾销制度和反补贴制度的视角对该法如何违反了WTO义务进行分析,指出了该法的贸易保护主义本质。
