“Outnumbered yet still on top,but for how long?” Theorizing about men working in the feminized field of public relations

The under-researched phenomenon of men working in the feminized field of public relations is investigated using the theory of gendered organizations and feminist and masculinity studies lenses. Survey, interview, and focus group findings illuminate the field's gender paradox wherein men report negative effects of gender-minority status at entry- and mid-levels and worry about a future when women will replace them at public relations’ highest management levels.     

The feminization of social services: Implications for black male youth

Throughout the institution of social services attention to the needs of black male youth has been subjugated relative to the needs of women and girls. Despite the educational failures and hyper-incarceration of black male youth they remain aloof from social services. In the aftermath is an invisible crisis not irrelevant to the feminization of social services. Such feminization is evident in the social work databases and social service help models where it has dominated. If social service agencies are to balance the influences of feminization, it is imperative to de-feminize social services by systematically addressing the needs of black male youths. The outcome will contribute to their academic successes and reduction in rates of hyper-incarceration. Only then will it be possible to sustain alternatives to the feminization of social services and the potency of the social work profession at-large.     

Psychometric and Faciometric Support for Observable Facial Feminization in Gay Men

ABSTRACT

Though male homosexuality appears to be evolutionarily paradoxical, phenotypic feminization has been offered as a route for three current models positing a genetic basis for male homosexuality. We tested whether facial feminization is observable in gay men in two studies. In Study 1, using two composite images of gay and of heterosexual men, naive participants (N = 308) rated the “gay” face more highly on stereotypically feminine traits and actual femininity and the “heterosexual” face more highly on stereotypically masculine traits and actual masculinity. In Study 2, faciometrics of 428 Internet images of gay (N = 219) and heterosexual men were analyzed along six sexually dimorphic ratios. The faciometrics of gay men were more feminine, both in gestalt terms and for five of the six individual traits. The studies offer objective support for a more feminized facial phenotype in gay males that is difficult to explain through cultural or behavioral cues.

家庭性别分工与农业女性化——基于江苏408份样本家庭的实证分析

农业女性化是农村劳动力转移过程中性别存在差异的产物。以农业家庭的性别分工为理论基础,通过描述统计和计量分析,揭示了包括年龄、文化程度、地区、收入和农业生产决策权等在内的自变量对农村女性从事的农业生产比重的影响。结果显示,农业女性化的现象在江苏省具有普遍性;农业女性化现象具有一定的刚性,男性劳动力”回流”以及男性劳动力外出打工时间的长短,并不能显著影响女性从事劳动生产的比重;女性在农业生产诸方面的的决策逐渐占据主导地位,女性已正成为农业生产的主体。     

成为青年女性农民:农村女性从事农业的过程与特征

青年女性农民是农村农业发展中活跃的生产力要素,她们如何参与现代农业并重构自身的主体地位,既关系着家庭农业的持续发展,也关系着农村青年女性的切身利益。本文基于河北省冀县黄村的实地研究指出,在农业转型过程中,青年女性农民从事农业的过程展现出不同于以往农业女性化讨论的独特特征,农业生产经营的社会化使青年女性农民在农业生产中的社会空间大大扩展,拥有了在父权制之外获取新资源的可能性。青年女性农民从事农业的过程仍然面临生产性和社会性的困境。在乡村振兴战略的实施过程中,对青年女性农民的农业生产困境予以应对,有助于进一步激发她们的内在活力与能动性。
