Mixed integer (0–1) fractional programming for decision support in paper production industry

This paper presents an effective and efficient method for solving a special class of mixed integer fractional programming (FP) problems. We take a classical reformulation approach for continuous FP as a starting point and extend it for solving a more general class of mixed integer (0–1) fractional programming problems.To stress the practical relevance of the research we focus on a real-life application in paper production industry. The constantly advancing physical knowledge of large scale pulp and paper production did have a substantial impact on an existing DSS in which mixed integer (0–1) fractional programming is introduced. We show that the motivation to solve a real-life fractional programming problem can provide the basis for a new approach in a new context that has an added value of its own, even outside the given application area. We describe the main characteristics of the DSS, the necessity to develop a non-iterative solution procedure and demonstrate both the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed approach from practical data sets.     

Financial Issues Associated with Having a Child with Autism

Data from the Family Experiences with Autism Survey are used to identify factors associated with financial problems in families that have a child with autism. Likelihood of financial problems was positively associated with use of medical interventions, having unreimbursed medical or therapy expenses, and having relatively lower income. Use of speech and language therapy was negatively associated with likelihood of financial problems. Many survey respondents forfeited future financial security and even experienced bankruptcy to provide needed therapy for a child with autism. Specific ways that financial advisors can help families that have a child with autism are outlined.

建立面向中国-东盟会展产业的研究生培养模式

会展产业作为“朝阳产业”,近年来在中国发展迅猛,刺激了会展人才需求,每年需新增从业人员20多万。但现有会展人才缺乏,高级会展人才尤缺,不能满足发展需求。广西借助每年举办中国—东盟博览会、中国—东盟商务与投资峰会和南宁国际民歌艺术节,大力发展”中国—东盟”会展产业,急需一批高素质、具有东盟文化特色的高级会展人才。针对于此,应加强会展产业的研究生培养,通过高校联合办学、加强学科建设,与会展管理部门、行业协会、企业等机构的合作等途径来共同培养。     

认清当代资本主义的新发展

《侵权责任法》的颁布对实质意义上侵权法的影响,包括对实质意义上侵权一般法的影响和对侵权特别法效力判断的影响。《侵权责任法》是绝对一般法。实质意义上的侵权一般法包括适用《民法通则》和《侵权责任法》两种情形。原有司法解释中侵权责任规范的效力取决于所解释的《民法通则》条文的效力。侵权特别法的效力判断分为法律整体判断模式和引致条款判断模式。如果行政法规上的侵权责任规范与《侵权责任法》有冲突,应该适用《侵权责任法》。侵权一般法在未来可能发生的变化,侵权特别法未来的立法空间和立法技术应该区分法律整体判断模式和引致条款判断模式。

What it means to be special: two sisters discuss their experiences

In this article, two adolescent sisters discuss and reflect upon the impact that the special education classification of one of them has had on their lives. The sisters, co-authors of this text, participated in designing the study and analyzing the data we produced; their voices are the core of this article. Issues about inclusion, the harms and benefits of special education classification, stigma, the multi-edged meanings of what it means to be “special,” and the often complicit roles of educators in perpetuating exclusionary policies all arise in the sisters’ discussions with each other, with their co-authors, and with pre-service teachers.
