Collaborative Data-Mining in an Adolescent Mental Health Service

Summary

As full participants in a collaborative clinical data-mining project intended to promote staff reflection and to improve services, clinicians discovered just how valuable their practice expertise was in maintaining project relevance. In this paper, they describe challenges they faced as non-experienced researchers and writers and how their practice skills enabled them to overcome these challenges. Benefits derived include: enhanced skills (in both practice and research), sensitization to previously overlooked areas of practice, and an increased sense of professionalism.

当前,各高校对思想政治理论课实践教学进行了积极的探索,其针对性和实效性也在逐渐提高,但在教学理念、教学过程、教学制度等方面仍存在一些薄弱环节和亟需解决的问题。实践证明,只有推行实践教学课程化,树立实践育人的理念;探索实践教学的途径,丰富实践育人的形式;健全实践教学的机制,确保实践育人的长效性,才能增强教育教学的针对性、实效性和吸引力、感染力。     

A Commentary on David Drucker's “Ask a Silly Question,Get a Silly Answer

ABSTRACT

This commentary views Drucker's paper as an example of practitioner research aimed both at developing a stronger evidence base for the profession, and promoting a form of thinking useful to Western social work practice. Links are also drawn between the ideas expressed in “Ask a Silly Question” and participatory social work in several non-Western parts of the world.

作为建设性后现代主义奠基人的怀特海与现代思想家马克思他们热切关注现代科学技术的进展,同时也看到受近代力学影响所形成的机械论自然观和宇宙观的局限,都批判二元论思维方式和传统实体论形而上学,在建构各自的新哲学观基础上,依循历史的逻辑阐发了有机体思想,不仅关涉到自然、社会、宇宙的有机性、秩序性,机体运行的基础、动力和机制,而且回答了如何走向未来的和谐与文明,并主要体现在以下几个方面：一是机体思想的基本表达：整体论框架内的有机宇宙观与社会机体论;二是机体思想的方法论诉求：内在关系中的过程辩证法与历史辩证法;三是机体思想的动力机制：目的论下的有机宇宙的秩序与社会规律;四是机体思想的存在论根基： “解构”、“终结”形而上学后的过程实在论与实践过程论;五是机体思想的价值取向：发展论旨趣上的宇宙文明与人类文明。关于这些问题的探究二者既有共通性,又有明显的殊异,对此加以比较研究有助于推进当下的生态文明建设。     

Theoretical and Practical Imperatives for Reflective Social Work Organizations in Health and Mental Health

Summary

This article describes the common challenges to health and mental health organizations that require these agencies to become more “reflective” in their culture and structures. This necessitates integrating practice and research at all organizational levels. Schon's concept of reflective practice to health and mental health organizations is extended to develop the construct of a reflective organization, in which direct practitioners are integral to organizational learning through ongoing service evaluation and redesign. The theoretical and practical reasons why social work administrators and clinicians alike are obliged to integrate practice and research are discussed. University-based models of practice-research integration impede this process; Epstein's Practice-Based Research approach facilitates it.     

Development and Utilization of a Practice-Based,Adolescent Intake Questionnaire (Adquest)

Summary

This article describes an intake questionnaire (Adquest) that was designed, tested, and implemented, and later employed in clinical data-mining studies, by practitioners in an adolescent mental health program. The instrument is primarily a practice-based, clinical information-gathering and client engagement device. Consequently, it differs in significant ways from more research-driven Rapid Assessment Instruments (RAIs). Despite these differences, when aggregated and analyzed, Adquest data provides valuable psychosocial information about hundreds of vulnerable urban youth seeking mental health services.     

Clinical Uses of an Adolescent Intake Questionnaire

Summary

Open dialogue concerning behavioral and environmental risks is key to effective, holistic intervention with urban adolescents. Topics for discussion must include substance use, sexual behaviors and abuse, health concerns, exposure to violence and racism, school performance, and relationships with family and peers. Clinical engagement of adolescents requires focusing the therapeutic relationship on issues of their own choice, at their own pace. This article describes the clinical uses and practice impacts of a comprehensive adolescent self-assessment questionnaire (Adquest). By normalizing sensitive topics and allowing clients to exercise control over the therapeutic agenda and pace, Adquest serves as a “bridge to engagement,” a device for keeping the clinical dialogue open and a mode of induction to the client role. For staff, it represents a way of standardizing and broadening clinical assessment, identifying treatment objectives, and framing psycho-educational interventions.

加强医学生外科学总论实践教学及规范带教过程的研究与探讨

外科学总论实践教学是培养医学生外科能力的关键环节．是从外科基础理论到外科临床实践的桥梁。为加强实践教学,我们采用新型外总实践教学体系．即以基础型实验为主．增设综合型实验、提高型实验及创新型实验。为规范带教过程,增加了《实践教学过程记录》及《学生实验记录表》,并采用操作讲授、演示、培训及层层过关测试及多站考核（Objective Structured Clinical Examination,OSCE）方法,进行对照研究,并在2006级临床医学各专业中推广及运用,获得良好的教学效果．为医学生外科临床实践打下良好的基础。
