本文从培养数学观念的角度，就数学教育如何培养人们的科学思维方式和形成良好的思维习惯作一论述。     

英语中形式与意义不一致的语用研究

英语与其他语种一样存在着形式与意义不一致的语用问题 ,主要有四种表现形式 :陈述句起疑问句、祈使句作用 ;疑问句起着陈述句、祈使句作用 ;肯定形式表示否定意义 ;否定形式表示肯定意义。由于说话者的目的不同 ,选择的表达方式就不同 ,其语用意义也随之变化。     

日语中的委婉表现及其语用功能

日语里有很多委婉的表现形式 ,如改换词语、以表喻里的暗喻法、模糊语、省略、正话反说、反话正说、借用其他词语等等。不同的表现形式包含有不同的语用功能。采用这些委婉的表现形式 ,其目的都是为了最终达到理想的交际效果。     

Bayesian modelling of catch in a north-west Atlantic fishery

Summary. We model daily catches of fishing boats in the Grand Bank fishing grounds. We use data on catches per species for a number of vessels collected by the European Union in the context of the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization. Many variables can be thought to influence the amount caught: a number of ship characteristics (such as the size of the ship, the fishing technique used and the mesh size of the nets) are obvious candidates, but one can also consider the season or the actual location of the catch. Our database leads to 28 possible regressors (arising from six continuous variables and four categorical variables, whose 22 levels are treated separately), resulting in a set of 177 million possible linear regression models for the log-catch. Zero observations are modelled separately through a probit model. Inference is based on Bayesian model averaging, using a Markov chain Monte Carlo approach. Particular attention is paid to the prediction of catches for single and aggregated ships.

Inference for the measurement of poverty in the presence of a stochastic weighting variable

Empirical applications of poverty measurement often have to deal with a stochastic weighting variable such as household size. Within the framework of a bivariate distribution function defined over income and weight, I derive the limiting distributions of the decomposable poverty measures and of the ordinates of stochastic dominance curves. The poverty line is allowed to depend on the income distribution. It is shown how the results can be used to test hypotheses concerning changes in poverty. Data tilting for time series

Summary. We develop a general methodology for tilting time series data. Attention is focused on a large class of regression problems, where errors are expressed through autoregressive processes. The class has a range of important applications and in the context of our work may be used to illustrate the application of tilting methods to interval estimation in regression, robust statistical inference and estimation subject to constraints. The method can be viewed as 'empirical likelihood with nuisance parameters'.
