现代歌词中的诗歌形态

歌词与诗歌合一是一部既往史,如今歌词已从诗歌中分离出来成为独立的文学体裁,然而,二者仍然有着密切关系.诗歌可成为歌词和歌词可以是诗歌的情况并不少见.现代歌词中的诗歌表现为三种形态,即诗歌被谱曲而成为歌词,古诗今译成歌词,歌词原作即诗歌.     

Multi-Media Computer Technology in the Classroom

SUMMARY

This article recounts the experiences of the authors as participants in the quest of their university to bring multi-media computer based technology into the classroom. The authors discuss the method of the university's approach to this task, review the process leading to the development of their own project, and then review some of the lessons they learned in the process. They conclude by discussing the outcomes and presenting a number of recommendations for other campuses that might be considering similar endeavors.     

A Bootstrap Approach for Testing Marginal Independence Between Two Categorical Variables When Subjects Have Repeated Responses

To assess independence in two-way contingency tables, the Pearson chi-square test or Fisher’s exact test are typically used. These tests assume that each subject contributes at most one count to only one table cell (e.g., sex versus blood type). In other situations, each subject may have more than one count contributing to the table and these counts may occur in different cells of the table. One may wish to test independence, adjusting for the within-subject correlation. We provide a simple nonparametric bootstrap approach and assess its performance through simulation studies. The method is illustrated on subjects with multiple mental health presentations to Emergency Departments.     

Independent student projects in undergraduate engineering statistics and quality control courses

This paper considers the use of independent student data collection and analysis projects in the teaching of engineering statistics and quality control. It describes the possible forms such projects can take, gives some details of their use at Iowa State University, and argues for their effectiveness in improving learning.     

Entertainers or education researchers? The challenges associated with presenting while black

How black faculty experience presenting their research in educational venues within the context of historical objectification of black people as sources of entertainment is an underexplored topic in higher education research. Presenting research has far-reaching implications for black academics’ advancement, such as future employment and opportunities for research collaboration. Thus, how black faculty are perceived while presenting has significant implications for their career trajectories. This study is concerned with understanding how black higher education faculty perceive, interpret, and respond to how they are perceived while presenting within a context of racialized academic scrutiny. Thirty-three black professors were interviewed about their participation in a number of presentation contexts, including national conferences, symposia, and campus job talks. Study participants discussed encountering multiple layers of racial stereotyping and bias, and also how their keen racial awareness enabled them to develop strategic coping mechanisms to manage audience reactions. These strategies also represented the self-sacrifices they made that altered their racial identities. By examining black faculty members’ struggles to be valued personally and professionally in white-dominated academic sites, the study findings can enrich critical interpretations of racism in higher education.
