BackgroundThere is no Australian data on the characteristics of women who consult with midwives.AimTo determine the profile of women who consult midwives in Australia.MethodsThis cross-sectional research was conducted as part of the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health (ALSWH). Participants were the younger (31–36 years) cohort of the ALSWH who completed a survey in 2009, and indicated that they were currently pregnant (n = 801). The main outcome measure was consultation with a midwife.FindingsOf the 801 women who indicated that they were currently pregnant at the time of the survey, 19%, 42%, and 70% of women in the first, second and third trimesters respectively had consulted with a midwife. Women were more likely to consult a midwife if they: also consulted with a hospital doctor (OR = 2.70, 95% CI: 1.66, 4.40); also consulted with a complementary and alternative medicine practitioner (OR = 1.94, 95% CI: 1.25, 3.03); were depressed (OR = 1.84, 95% CI: 1.03, 3.28); constipated (OR = 1.80, 95% CI: 1.04, 3.13); or had been diagnosed or treated for hypertension during pregnancy (OR = 2.78, 95% CI: 1.27, 6.09). Women were less likely (OR = 0.34, 95% CI: 0.21, 0.56) to consult with a midwife if they had private health insurance.ConclusionWomen were more likely to consult with midwives in conjunction with consultations with hospital doctors or complementary and alternative medicine practitioners. Women with private health insurance were less likely to consult midwives. More research is necessary to determine the implications of the lack of midwifery care for these women.  相似文献

Objective

To report findings from a study of the perceptions of foster parents, child protection workers and children regarding supervised access visits for children who are permanent wards (Crown wards).

Methods

Interviews were conducted with twenty-four Crown wards having regular supervised access visits. Eight focus groups were conducted with twenty-four foster parents, and twenty-six child protection workers. Interviews and focus groups explored perspectives regarding supervised access visits. Interviews and focus groups were transcribed, coded, and thematically analyzed. Negative case analysis, prolonged engagement, and triangulation contributed to the trustworthiness of the research.

Results

While this study is explorative, findings suggest considerable dissatisfaction regarding access visits among foster parents and workers, inadequate training for workers and foster parents, poor communication and consultation regarding access visits, and confusion regarding the roles of supervisors.

Conclusions

The data suggest several possible explanations for children's distress associated with access visits including lack of communication among access supervisors, workers and foster parents; insufficient training for workers who supervise visits; and a lack of validation of the children's contradictory feelings towards their mothers.

Practice implications

Findings suggest the need for more consultation with and inclusion of foster parents in access visits. More training is required for workers supervising access visits including whether and how it is beneficial for children to express their feelings and address potentially difficult topics regarding their biological family members.  相似文献

鉴于教育部普通本科专业目录中没有心理咨询专业,兰州城市学院创新性的设立了思想政治教育(心理咨询方向)专业,培养中小学思想品德教育教师兼心理咨询辅导师,2011年第一届毕业生即将毕业。有效解决了因为编制限制而造成的思想品德教师不能很好的适应课程内容心理学化需要和兼任心理咨询辅导师的问题。其毕业生既能提高中小学思想品德教育教师的教学质量,又能满足中小学思想品德教育教师兼任心理咨询辅导师的需要,解决编制限制问题。这一实验结果再次表明,高等学校专业特色的创建必须立足思想和实践的创新。  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This paper explores the development of staff consultation in the context of an innovative residential childcare pathway within a local authority in the United Kingdom. A preceding attempt to develop group consultations in residential homes has been expanded upon and enhanced as part of implementing a broader therapeutic residential service model. A wide-ranging training programme and consultations have been developed for residential childcare workers to introduce and embed therapeutic ideas. Systemic therapy and attachment theory ideas have been used explicitly through exploring with staff how these approaches can inform practice, and implicitly by providing a framework of consultation to inform and expand individual and team thinking. Promoting reflective practice through group consultations has highlighted complex challenges, stimulating opportunities as well as a need to consider multiple levels of context. Recommendations from this learning are discussed to help inform practice in new and existing residential services.  相似文献
