Lassoing the Determinants of Retirement

This article uses Danish register data to explain the retirement decision of workers in 1990 and 1998. Many variables might be conjectured to influence this decision such as demographic, socioeconomic, financial, and health related variables as well as all the same factors for the spouse in case the individual is married. In total, we have access to 399 individual specific variables that all could potentially impact the retirement decision. We use variants of the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (Lasso) and the adaptive Lasso applied to logistic regression in order to uncover determinants of the retirement decision. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first application of these estimators in microeconometrics to a problem of this type and scale. Furthermore, we investigate whether the factors influencing the retirement decision are stable over time, gender, and marital status. It is found that this is the case for core variables such as age, income, wealth, and general health. We also point out the most important differences between these groups and explain why these might be present.

Shift-Share Analysis with Spatial Structure: an Application to Italian Industrial Districts

Shift-share analysis is a well-known and widely used tool for spatial data analysis, though it presents some weaknesses and limitations. In this paper we aim to extend this technique by introducing a spatial structure in the particular case of Italian industrial districts. This extension is possible due to the use of enterprise legal status, together with activity information, available on the Italian Register of Businesses at the Chambers of Commerce. As far as spatial analysis is concerned, in this work we give a more precise territorial meaning to the theoretical concept of neighbourhood.     

论国民政府的侨教立案制度

为了增强侨胞在海外的生存能力,国民政府制定并实施了侨教立案制度,力图将华侨教育纳入国民政府整个教育体系当中。由于经费不足、管理分散等种种因素,侨校立案制度并未达到预期的效果,但对于培养广大侨胞的民族意识和对政府的认同感,以及对改进侨教仍有一定的积极意义。     

语域理论与翻译

近年来,语域理论已被越来越多地引入到翻译研究当中。从语域的角度来评价翻译,可以较好地避免主观臆断,用较为科学的方法评估译文的“信”度。本文立足于系统功能语言学的语域理论,从语场、语旨和语式三个层面探讨了语域理论对翻译实践和评论的指导作用。     

基于行政记录人口普查方法的国际比较

开展基于行政记录的人口普查被视为有效破解传统人口普查难题的途径之一,亦是顺应大数据时代充分挖掘人口行政记录资源的必然之选。本文较系统地阐述了基于行政记录人口普查方法的基本框架,尝试对“完全模式”人口普查和“组合模式”人口普查的实施步骤进行解析。基于此,本文选择芬兰、奥地利、瑞士、荷兰四个国家,分普查基本情况、行政记录类型选择和基本记录库形成、已存在统计记录系统基本结构、专门组织的抽样调查设计、不同系统间的链接途径、新人口统计信息质量评估方法等六个维度,对实施基于行政记录的人口普查方法进行了国家比较。     

从语域的角度看Paraphrase在英语教学中的不足

从功能角度分析英语教学中释义（paraphrase）的不足之处。从形式主义的角度来看,这种方法有很多所谓的优势。但是,如果我们将语言中的功能方面也考虑进来的话,就会发现那些所谓的优点正是这一教学法的致命的弱点所在。传统的教学法要求学生首先掌握各种语言结构形式,然后再将它们应用到实际交际中。系统功能语言学将语言视为一个可供人们根据不同的语境选择适当表达形式的＂意义潜势＂系统。它认为学习者首先应该学会如何用语言进行交际,然后在交际过程中学习语言的结构形式。着力从系统功能语言学的语域理论对释义这一教学法作出了一系列的探讨。     

语域与翻译

英语在其运用过程中,要求在分清语域的前提下使用得体的语言。得体语言的掌握和运用需要具有选择语域的能力,领悟不同语域差异的认知能力,以及处理好不同语域中恰当对应词的翻译能力。     

Register data in the evaluation and program planning of addiction treatment programs: Using Sweden as an example

Data from large-scale registers is often underutilized when evaluating addiction treatment programs. Since many programs collect register data regarding clients and interventions, there is a potential to make greater use of such records for program evaluation. The purpose of this article is to discuss the value of using large-scale registers in the evaluation and program planning of addiction treatment systems and programs. Sweden is used as an example of a country where register data is both available and is starting to be used in national evaluation and program planning efforts.The article focuses on possibilities, limitations and practicalities when using large-scale register data to conduct evaluations and program planning of addiction treatment programs. Main conclusions are that using register data for evaluation provides large amounts of data at low cost, limitations associated to the use of register data may be handled statistically, register data can answer important questions in planning of addiction treatment programs, and more accurate measures are needed to account for the diversity of client populations.
