Suppose independent random samples are available from two normal populations with a common mean and unequal variances. Estimation of a quantile of the first population is considered with respect to the quadratic loss. Some new estimators for the quantile are proposed using some previously known estimators of a common mean. Inadmissibility results are proved for estimators which are equivariant under affine and location groups of transformations. Risk values of various estimators of a quantile are compared numerically using a detailed simulation study.  相似文献

Abstract

Estimation of scale parameter under the squared log error loss function is considered with restriction to the principle of invariance and risk unbiasedness. An explicit form of minimum risk scale-equivariant estimator under this loss is obtained. The admissibility and inadmissibility of a class of linear estimators of the form (cT + d) are considered, where T follows a gamma distribution with an unknown scale parameter η and a known shape parameter ν. An expansion formula for the coverage probability of prediction region based on a shrinkage estimator proposed by Joshi [Joshi, V. M. (1967). Inadmissibility of the usual confidence sets for the mean of a multivariate normal population. Ann. Math. Statist., 38, 1868–1875.] is obtained. Its error bound is evaluated in terms of a function of an unknown parameter. Applying this result, three types of asymptotic expansions are derived. The uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimator (UMVUE) of the variance of the inverse Gaussian distribution is shown to be inadmissible in terms of the mean squared error, and a dominating estimator is given. ABSTRACT

Estimation of common location parameter of two exponential populations is considered when the scale parameters are ordered using type-II censored samples. A general inadmissibility result is proved which helps in deriving improved estimators. Further, a class of estimators dominating the MLE has been derived by an application of integrated expression of risk difference (IERD) approach of Kubokawa. A discussion regarding extending the results to a general k( ? 2) populations has been done. Finally, all the proposed estimators are compared through simulation.  相似文献

Let π1, …, πk be k (? 2) independent populations, where πi denotes the uniform distribution over the interval (0, θi) and θi > 0 (i = 1, …, k) is an unknown scale parameter. The population associated with the largest scale parameter is called the best population. For selecting the best population, We use a selection rule based on the natural estimators of θi, i = 1, …, k, for the case of unequal sample sizes. Consider the problem of estimating the scale parameter θL of the selected uniform population when sample sizes are unequal and the loss is measured by the squared log error (SLE) loss function. We derive the uniformly minimum risk unbiased (UMRU) estimator of θL under the SLE loss function and two natural estimators of θL are also studied. For k = 2, we derive a sufficient condition for inadmissibility of an estimator of θL. Using these condition, we conclude that the UMRU estimator and natural estimator are inadmissible. Finally, the risk functions of various competing estimators of θL are compared through simulation.  相似文献

It is shown that the sample mean % MathType!End!2!1!, is admissible. More generally, we investigate the admissibility of estimators of the form % MathType!End!2!1! under % MathType!End!2!1!. We investigate the Bayes estimation of the means in Poisson decomposable graphical models. Some classes of Bayes estimators are provided which improve on the maximum likelihood estimator under the normalized squared error loss. Both proper and improper priors are included in the proposed classes of priors. Concerning the generalized Bayes estimators with respect to the improper priors, we address their admissibility.  相似文献
