When prediction intervals are constructed using unobserved component models (UCM), problems can arise due to the possible existence of components that may or may not be conditionally heteroscedastic. Accurate coverage depends on correctly identifying the source of the heteroscedasticity. Different proposals for testing heteroscedasticity have been applied to UCM; however, in most cases, these procedures are unable to identify the heteroscedastic component correctly. The main issue is that test statistics are affected by the presence of serial correlation, causing the distribution of the statistic under conditional homoscedasticity to remain unknown. We propose a nonparametric statistic for testing heteroscedasticity based on the well-known Wilcoxon''s rank statistic. We study the asymptotic validation of the statistic and examine bootstrap procedures for approximating its finite sample distribution. Simulation results show an improvement in the size of the homoscedasticity tests and a power that is clearly comparable with the best alternative in the literature. We also apply the test on real inflation data. Looking for the presence of a conditionally heteroscedastic effect on the error terms, we arrive at conclusions that almost all cases are different than those given by the alternative test statistics presented in the literature.  相似文献

Most of the long memory estimators for stationary fractionally integrated time series models are known to experience non‐negligible bias in small and finite samples. Simple moment estimators are also vulnerable to such bias, but can easily be corrected. In this article, the authors propose bias reduction methods for a lag‐one sample autocorrelation‐based moment estimator. In order to reduce the bias of the moment estimator, the authors explicitly obtain the exact bias of lag‐one sample autocorrelation up to the order n−1. An example where the exact first‐order bias can be noticeably more accurate than its asymptotic counterpart, even for large samples, is presented. The authors show via a simulation study that the proposed methods are promising and effective in reducing the bias of the moment estimator with minimal variance inflation. The proposed methods are applied to the northern hemisphere data. The Canadian Journal of Statistics 37: 476–493; 2009 © 2009 Statistical Society of Canada  相似文献

In this paper we extend the closed-form estimator for the generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedastic (GARCH(1,1)) proposed by Kristensen and Linton [A closed-form estimator for the GARCH(1,1) model. Econom Theory. 2006;22:323–337] to deal with additive outliers. It has the advantage that is per se more robust that the maximum likelihood estimator (ML) often used to estimate this model, it is easy to implement and does not require the use of any numerical optimization procedure. The robustification of the closed-form estimator is done by replacing the sample autocorrelations by a robust estimator of these correlations and by estimating the volatility using robust filters. The performance of our proposal in estimating the parameters and the volatility of the GARCH(1,1) model is compared with the proposals existing in the literature via intensive Monte Carlo experiments and the results of these experiments show that our proposal outperforms the ML and quasi-maximum likelihood estimators-based procedures. Finally, we fit the robust closed-form estimator and the benchmarks to one series of financial returns and analyse their performances in estimating and forecasting the volatility and the value-at-risk.  相似文献

Pukkila (1982) introduced a new portmanteau-type test of white noise. The test is based on the differences between the estimated autocorrelations and the corresponding partial autocorrelations. In the present paper the distributions of these differences are consider in the case of normal white noise. Approximations to these distributions are given. Goodness of fit of these theoretical distributions and the corresponding observed distributions is studied using simulated time series of various lengths.  相似文献

The estimation of the parameter of a mixed model analysis of variance by maximum likelihood methods is discussed. The functional iteration method is studied and found to have good comptuational properties. The estimates are studied via Monte Carlo techniques and their small sample properties are observed; it is found that the MLE's may be biased but that they have good Mean Square Error properties.  相似文献

In the field of financial time series, threshold-asymmetric conditional variance models can be used to explain asymmetric volatilities [C.W. Li and W.K. Li, On a double-threshold autoregressive heteroscedastic time series model, J. Appl. Econometrics 11 (1996), pp. 253–274]. In this paper, we consider a broad class of threshold-asymmetric GARCH processes (TAGARCH, hereafter) including standard ARCH and GARCH models as special cases. Since sample autocorrelation function provides a useful information to identify an appropriate time-series model for the data, we derive asymptotic distributions of sample autocorrelations both for original process and for squared process. It is verified that standard errors of sample autocorrelations for TAGARCH models are significantly different from unity for lower lags and they are exponentially converging to unity for higher lags. Furthermore they are shown to be asymptotically dependent while being independent of standard GARCH models. These results will be interesting in the light of the fact that TAGARCH processes are serially uncorrelated. A simulation study is reported to illustrate our results.  相似文献

For the class of autoregressive-moving average (ARMA) processes, we examine the relationship between the dual and the inverse processes. It is demonstrated that the inverse process generated by a causal and invertible ARMA (p, q) process is a causal and invertible ARMA (q, p) model. Moreover, it is established that this representation is strong if and only if the generating process is Gaussian. More precisely, it is derived that the linear innovation process of the inverse process is an all-pass model. Some examples and applications to time reversibility are given to illustrate the obtained results.  相似文献

We examine the behaviour of the sample autocorrelations of a seasonal time series for which the first difference of order s (s ≥ 1) is stationary. The asymptotic distribution of the autocorrelations r'(k) based on uncentered data and of the autocorrelations r(k) based on centered data are derived. In each case, the asymptotic distribution is characterized as a function of the lag k and the parameters of the process. A simulation study was conducted in order to investigate the rate of convergence of the finite sample distributions of r(k) and r'(k) to their asymptotic counterparts and to evaluate the effect of centering or not centering the data on the distribution of autocorrelations.  相似文献

This paper considers the problem of testing the randomness of Gaussian and non–Gaussian time series. A general class of parametric portmanteau statistics, which include the Box–Pierce and the Ljung–Box statistics, is introduced. Using the exact first and second moments of the sample autocorrelations when the observations are i.i.d. normal with unknown mean, the exact expected value of any portmanteau statistics is obtained for this case. Two new portmanteau statistics, which exploit the exact moments of the sample autocorrelations, are studied. For the nonparametric case, a rank portmanteau statistic is introduced. The latter has the same distribution for any series of exchangeable random variables and uses the exact moments of the rank autocorrelations. We show that its asymptotic distribution is chi–squate. Simulation results indicate that the new portmanteau statistics are better approximated by the chi–square asymptotic distribution than the Ljung–Box statistics. Several analytical results presented in the paper were derived by usig a symbolic manipulation program.  相似文献

We propose an estimation procedure for time-series regression models under the Bayesian inference framework. With the exact method of Wise [Wise, J. (1955). The autocorrelation function and spectral density function. Biometrika, 42, 151–159], an exact likelihood function can be obtained instead of the likelihood conditional on initial observations. The constraints on the parameter space arising from the stationarity conditions are handled by a reparametrization, which was not taken into consideration by Chib [Chib, S. (1993). Bayes regression with autoregressive errors: A Gibbs sampling approach. J. Econometrics, 58, 275–294] or Chib and Greenberg [Chib, S. and Greenberg, E. (1994). Bayes inference in regression model with ARMA(p, q) errors. J. Econometrics, 64, 183–206]. Simulation studies show that our method leads to better inferential results than their results.  相似文献
