Summary. The determination of evolutionary relationships is a fundamental problem in evolutionary biology. Genome arrangement data are potentially more informative than deoxyribonucleic acid sequence data for inferring evolutionary relationships between distantly related taxa. We describe a Bayesian framework for phylogenetic inference from mitochondrial genome arrangement data using Markov chain Monte Carlo methods. Formal inference in randomized clinical trials is based on controlling the type I error rate associated with a single pre‐specified statistic. The deficiency of using just one method of analysis is that it depends on assumptions that may not be met. For robust inference, we propose pre‐specifying multiple test statistics and relying on the minimum p‐value for testing the null hypothesis of no treatment effect. The null hypothesis associated with the various test statistics is that the treatment groups are indistinguishable. The critical value for hypothesis testing comes from permutation distributions. Rejection of the null hypothesis when the smallest p‐value is less than the critical value controls the type I error rate at its designated value. Even if one of the candidate test statistics has low power, the adverse effect on the power of the minimum p‐value statistic is not much. Its use is illustrated with examples. We conclude that it is better to rely on the minimum p‐value rather than a single statistic particularly when that single statistic is the logrank test, because of the cost and complexity of many survival trials. It is charaateristic feature of the serasonal adjusment procedures generally used today that their theoretical basis consists of analyses both in the time – and frequency – domain. However, both methods of analysis are unconnected hitherto. In addition, even the modern statistical concepts considering the transfer functions of the filters used, show definitorial deficiencies, since the lengths of the lengths of the relevant frequency bands are not determined objectively. By using the matrix formulation of the two-step approach to the distributions of runs, a recursive relation and an explicit expression are derived for the generating function of the joint distribution of rises and falls for multivariate random sequences in terms of generating functions of individual letters, from which the generating functions of the joint distribution of rises, falls, and number of runs are obtained. This paper establishes the spectrum invariance of the information matrix under an arbitrary subgroup Г of the group Δ of factor permutations. In addition, it provides the randomized unbiased estimation of a linear parametric function under the composition Ω°Г, where Ω is the group of level permutations. These two results are achieved for the most practical partitioning of the whole parametric vector using the concepts of Г-closed and admissibility of a parametric subvector. Applications are given with an explicit illustration using the minimal resolution III design setting for the 23 factorial. 相似文献

Split-plot design may be refer to a common experimental setting where a particular type of restricted randomization has occurred during a planned experiment. The aim of this article is to suggest a new method to perform inference on split-plot experiments by combination-based permutation tests. This novel nonparametric approach has been studied and validated using a Monte Carlo simulation study where we compared it with the parametric and nonparametric procedures proposed in the literature. Results suggest that in each experimental situation where normality is hard to justify and especially when errors have heavy-tailed distribution, the proposed nonparametric procedure can be considered as a valid solution. 相似文献

Summary. We revise the result of the 1970 selective service draft lottery in the USA following an open question that was suggested by Fienberg in a paper published in Science in 1971. The result of the drawings can be viewed as a particular spatial pattern which can be analysed by using general spatial tools adapted to our context. Approaches for assessing the complete spatial randomness for this spatial process on a finite support are proposed.
