Abstract:When appropriately used, simulations are powerful educational tools for the social work educator. A simulation permits the student to experience an approximation of reality, thereby generating interest and a more relevant classroom environment When it is not feasible to use extant simulation games, educators need to design their own—ones adapted to particular time limitation and course objectives. Two examples of “homemade” simulations are presented. One focuses on community power, the other on grant writing.
