The demand of versatile talent is necessary required ment with the social progress and also the certain result of the improving of market economy. The basic requirement of the talents needed by different companies is investigated in the paper. It is pointed out that the social expectation for the talents is both his background and ability and the basic scale for versatile talents can be described with such conditions as background of working experience, communication with other people, technique + language, ability of both intelligence and emotion quotient, technique + IT, and philosophy and practical etc. The need of socilty for versatile talents is not only an inevitable requirement of social development and progress but also an inevitable outcome of the improvement of market economy.Colleges and universities should meet the needs of the society to change the mechanism for training talents,and to cultivate versatile talents.
