儒家为己之学传统的现代意义

儒家的为己之学传统是一以贯之的。儒家的为己之学传统其价值导向的精神实质 ,一是成人成圣的心性之学 ,而非功名利禄的事功之学 ,旨在强调一种道德价值而非功利价值 ;二是对人的自我完善、安身立命的内在价值的弘扬 ,是对人不受外在的功名利禄所役的独立精神和人的主体性的肯定 ;三是对为学的正确学风的倡导 ,对功利的、虚浮的不良学风的贬抑。其现代意义体现为 :第一 ,对于当代社会生活提升价值理性、弘扬人文精神 ,克服工具理性与功利主义思潮过于膨胀的偏颇有积极的借鉴意义。第二 ,对于引导民众注重修德成善、安身立命的内在价值 ,提高国民道德素质 ,提升民族精神气质有积极作用。第三 ,对于端正学风教风 ,克服学术与教育中过于功利化、工具化的偏颇和不良社会风气有积极作用。

The Contemporary Significance of the Traditional Doctrine of Self-cultivation Advocated by Confucianism

Self cultivation has been a traditional doctrine of Confucianism. As far as the spiritual essence of its value is concerned, the following three aspects must be mentioned. Firstly it is a doctrine focusing on spiritual cultivation instead of name and profit, with the purpose of emphasizing moral value instead of material gain. Secondly it eulogizes self perfection and the pursuit of internal virtue, which turns out to be the affirmation of man's individuality independent of external temptation of profit or name. Thirdly it is the promotion of correct study style and the depreciation of utilitarian and superficial study style. The contemporary significance of this doctrine gets embodied in the following three aspects. Firstly it will provide enlightening reference for promoting virtue and humanism, restraining the spread of instrumentalism and utilitarianism. Secondly it will play an important part in guiding the public to pay attention to the cultivation of moral character, improve Chinese people's moral quality and upgrade the national spirit. Thirdly it is not only beneficial to rectify the style of teaching and leaning, but also to overcome the utilitarian and instrumental tendency of education or resist the effects of certain harmful social mood.
