Further Discussion on the Promotions of the Shen-ce forces in the Middle and Late Tang Dynasty

The Shen-ce forces would be promoted every three years. After the Ganlu Incident,the prin-ciple of the Shen-ce forces'promotion was pretty abnormal. The Shen-ce forces'promotion primarily had several types. The first one was the transformation from the Shen-ce general to Jiedushi or the prefectural governor. The second one was transformation from the leader of the Outer Garrisons to Jiedushi or the prefec-tural governor. The third one was the conversion from the Shen-ce general in Chang'an to the leader of the Outer Garrisons. The last one was the Shen-ce soldiers became the Shen-ce generasl. The major reasons for the Shen-ce forces'promotion were:giving bribes to the Palace Commandant-protectors,having both abili-ty and political integrity,being well-educated and trained in military exercises,making contributions,awar-ding the offspring of meritorious statesman,the need of Strategic development and the artistic skills.
