On Zhao Yi’s Remarks of the Rival Principalities in the Tang and Five Dynasties

The situation of rival principalities from the late Tang Dynasty to the Five Dynasties period was a very important social problem.As a famous historian in the Qing Dynasty,Zhao Yi referred to it repeatedly in his book The Reading Notes on the Twenty-two Histories.He deeply researched,summarized,analyzed and commented about it from several aspects,such as its origin,evolution,the reasons of the separatism,tyrannies and harm,and the policies in successive dynasties to tackle the problem.These reviews give important references to the study of the Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties.
