因为把言语行为范畴的“合作”与社会行为范畴的“合作”混为一谈，所以造成对格赖斯合作原则的理解相当混乱。如果把“合作原则”理解为是言语交际者遵守社团交际规约，对交际目的和具体言语行为实施方式的共同磋商过程，合作原则就具有相当强的阐释功能。其理论基础来源于索绪尔的任意性原则和语言价值理论。

The understandings of Grice＇ s Cooperative principle are in a muddle as people have confused ＂cooperation＂ in speech act category with the one in social behavior category. Cooperative Principle will be quite forcefully interpretation if it is treated as the lingual communicators＇ obedience to the regulations of associational communication and the process of their common consulting about the aim of communication and the way of carrying out the specific speech acts. The theoretical basis is the Arbitrary Principle and the Language Value Theory from Saussure.
