In his Eastern and Western Cultures and Philosophies,Lian Shuming's attention is not against democracy and science,but to accept them.He accepted them totally,and then made a fundamental change to the life view of western world.So,this means he wanted to accept democracy and science on the one hand and kept the traditional Confucian ethics on the other hand to play an important role in his own time and even in the future.Unfortunately,this kind of eclecticism made him into a trap of an embarrassing position.
