| Abstract: | Xihaigu Prefecture,in Northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region,is one of the most impoverished areas in China.The prefecture includes seven poverty-stricken counties,and two poverty-stricken districts.In 1972,the United Nations(UN)classified Xihaigu asone of the least-suitable areas for human habitation in the world.During the past three decades,women,who are both participants and beneficiaries of the poverty-alleviation projects conducted in Xihaigu,have been a key focus of attention during implementation of the projects. |
