| 摘 要： | 在《排华法案》实施的61年（1882年-1943年）里，华人成为世界上唯一不能自由移入美国的种族。1906年的旧金山地震为饱受种族歧视压迫的华人提供了成为“土生”公民的契机。而通过他们申请的海外子女出生证，使不少华人进入美国，成为所谓的“契纸公民”。本文旨在探讨“契纸公民”现象出现的历史背景、经济和文化因素，揭示其形成的原因，分析这一现象背后的种族歧视根源。

| Abstract: | During the 61 years of Chinese Exclusion Act from 1882 to 1943, Chinese were the only ethnic group who was barred from the free entry into the United States. The earthquake at San Francisco in 1906 offered an opportunity for Chinese Americans to claim citizenship through legal procedures and therefore enabled many Chinese to enter America as Paper Citizens. This thesis aims to analyze the historical, economical and cultural backdrop of this immigration group, exploring why and how the phenomenon came into being and expounding its racism root. |
