我国古代的传记长期以来依附于史学而存在,所以古人往往把传等同于史,写作传记只求真实.唐代,一批兼具史才和文才的古文家,以其敏锐的眼光,指出传记写作不仅要求真,更要讲求文采,这在有意无意之间为传记挣脱史学的樊篱作出了卓越的贡献.全文正是从传记的真实写作观到"以文为戏"的创新写作观,较为完整地勾勒出了唐代古文家的传记写作观念.

From "Writing Bluntly" to "Playing on Literature": Conception of Biographical Writers in Tang Dynasty

For a long period, biography in ancient China had to rely on historical studies. Thus ancient people used to treat the two as the same and pursue simply authenticity in writing biographies. In the Tang dynasty (618-907), a number of prosemen, with their penetrating eyes and insightful knowledge on both history and literature, argued that biographies should not only seek truth but also emphasize literary grace. This, intentionally or unintentionally, enabled biography literature to throw off the shackles of historical studies. It is through the evolution from the authentic point of view of biography writing to "playing on literature" - the innovational conception of writing - that this paper draws a panoramic outline of the conception of biography writing held by prose masters in the Tang period.
