A Review of "If on a Winter's Night a Traveler",a Parody in Postmodern Context

As a literal genre, parody has gone through three stages of development as far as its essence is concerned. Italo Calvino' s "If on a Wnter' s Night a Traveler" successfully uses parody in a postmodern context. In the work, concrete tactics of parody such as object replacement and lack of ending disintegrate text structure of traditional detective novel. This new kind of structure gives all elements in text a place for equal dialogue and interaction , and well embodies the two conceptis of non-essence and intertextuality.
