C-E Translation in Light of the Differences of Thinking between China and the West

Translation, a rendering from one language to another, is not only a linguistic activity, but also one that involves the way of thinking. This paper expounds the major differences in the ways of thinking embodied in Chinese and English by presenting typical examples of C-E translation. It proceeds to analyze the necessity of changing stereotypes of thinking. It holds that a good understanding to the characteristics and law of English and Chinese ways of thinking will contribute to fluent, idiomatic, beautiful and logical translation between the two languages.
