Manjusri Belief Propagation in Japan by Cyonen’s China Visit to Mount Wutai

In Northern Song Dynasty,Cyonen was the first Japanese monk who visited China.He had an important influence on the Wutai Mountain Manjusri belief’s propagation in Japan.Before he visited China,the temple where Cyonen practiced Buddhism had had a deep origin with Wutai Mountain,but Cyonen experienced a process from not aiming for Mount Wutai to aiming at Wutai Mountain.In China,the experience in Wutai Mountain gave him a spiritual impact,and finally he decided to build Japan’s Wutai Mountain;After returnning to Japan,Cyonen went through untold hardships,finally his disciples built the Wutai Mountain in Japan.The paper studies Cyonen’s activity before his visit to China,during the visit,and after his returning to Japan,and then it analyzes Cyonen’s influence on Wutai Mountain Manjusri belief’s propagation in Japan.
