| Abstract: | It is little known that Yuan Wen-zong had been forced to reside in Hainan before he succeed to the throne. The paper, based on textual analysis of available documentation, ventures to find clues to some shared inquiries about his residence in Hainan. These include, among other things, when and at what age he came to reside in Hainan, why he came and left Hainan, who accompanied him to Hainan, where he lived, what influence he left upon Hainan, and what legends there have been about him. |
