简论《万国公报》的基本思想倾向

在近代的“西学东渐”史、中西文化交流史上 ,《万国公报》具有重要地位。对于传播西方文化 ,它曾作了重要贡献。但它的根本宗旨是欲使中国基督教化。它的宣传 ,特别是对以儒学为主流的中国传统文化的批评 ,带有某种文化征服的色彩。它鼓吹中国进行变革 ,也是为了使中国顺应西方的秩序和需要。我们只有弄清其基本思想倾向 ,才能对它的全貌及影响有全面、正确的认识。

Briefly on the Basic Ideological Tendency of the International Bulletin

In the modern history of "eastward invasion of Western ideas" and the history of exchanges between Chinese and Western cultures, International Bulleti n occupies an important place, greatly contributing to the spread of western cu lture. However, its basic purpose was to Christianize China. Its propaganda, esp ecially its criticism of the traditional Chinese culture with Confucianism as th e backbone, was tainted with so me cultural conquest. It preached reforms in Chi na, which was to prepare China for Western order and needs. Only by clarifying its basic ideological tendency can there be an overall correct understanding of its entirety and impact.
