The effects of developing English film appreciation course to non English majors at China's universities

Developing a English film appreciation course for non English majors at China＇s universities is of great significance which not only meets the needs of offering students knowledge of language and culture, but altering the traditional concept of learning English. The proper approach of giving this course is to select adequate materials of films and TV serials of English, introduce the background information behind them and then hold some activities after watching those visual materials. Most of China＇ s universities have already implemented this course to English majors, but only very few to non English majors currently. Offering this course to non English majors enables them to experience foreign cultures behind languages directly, enhance their listening ability and oral English lever through a more interesting way so as to strengthen the communication capability and skills for non English majors to better learn English as a foreign language and cross-cultural knowledge.
