林纾的西方观与妇女观

Lin Shu's Viewpoints about the West and Women

As an intellectual living in a time when an old age was giving way to an old one, he had a liberal mind towards the West. He longed to take advantage of the West to revise China's traditions instead of destroying them. This was of special importance to the intellectuals during the May 4 Movement. His idea of educating women while limiting their power was fairly based on the reality in the context of his day.
