Abstract: | This article describes welcoming committee training groups, an extension of the principles of task-centered group work to fit the particular psychosocial needs and resources of institutional- ized older adults. Utilizing a structured approach to group develop- ment, such groups train participants in interpersonal skills which facilitate socially competent prosocial behavior, and promote inter- personal support, perceived self-efficacy and a socially-significant role within the larger institutional environment. For purposes of il- lustraion, a detailed description of the development of one such group is provided. |
