Second 42 CFR Part 2 SAMHSA proposal comment deadline this week

The second of two proposals by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to weaken the confidentiality of substance use disorder (SUD) treatment records under 42 CFR Part 2 has a comment period deadline of Oct. 25. This is the longer Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM), which has one provision that is alarming to opioid treatment programs (OTPs) and their patients: One would remove the ban against giving OTP patient data to prescription drug monitoring programs (PDMPs).
