Abstract: | Abstract Individual differences have been identified as sources of variance in the design, success, and use of both Management Information and Decision Support Systems. Research is summarized that suggests cognitive style and task requirements may complicate the design of Management Information and Decision Support Systems for use in Human Services. A case study of the development of a research data base for surgeons provides the basis for discussing task implications of human service systems which are designed to support direct practitioners. Potential problems are identified and prescriptive measures are suggested. |
