An Example of Serendipity: The Unintended Impact of Computers on Social Work Practice

The author argues that computers are forcing changes upon social work practice and social service delivery which go far beyond computerisation itself. Recent events in Britain concerning subject access, data protection and confidentiality are outlined and some of their implications for practice examined.
