《看得见风景的房间》中的父亲形象研究

The Figure of the Father in A Rome with a View

Influenced by his life experience,the figure of a father in Forster's works are usually absent,and topics on "father" in his novels seldom receive significant attention from the critics.The Name-of-the-Father is a concept of Jacques Lacan to which people have paid much attention.Lacan argued that the triangle of father,mother,and child was the cornerstone of a steady family,and it could be ruined by the absence of the father.However,the vacant position could be filled by other people or things,so father's absence is symbolic.In Forster's novel A Rome with a View,the absence and the death of the father are just symbolic,and the monitoring of a father to his daughter is achieved through other characters.It's only the figure of a father which is absent,while the voice of a father is penetrating through the whole text.
